Small accident: Insurance or not?

Hi guys,

I like to get your opinion on whether I should get the following repair done over insurance or not.

A guy bumped into my car and the bumper has some scratches which kind of look ugly. The paint has some little scuffs but I think can be easily polished out.

What's your call on this?

I presume that you let him off the hook? Found it after that fact? Kinda depends on the repair cost and what your deductible is. Some asshole would probably put that on carfax as a wreck, putting on your insurance could drive your premium up etc etc

You can buy a brand new part from GMpartsdirect for less than $200. I wouldn't bother with insurance.

I told the guy to wait with contacting his insurance. I have of course all his information.

My plan is to get an estimate from the dealer. Then to avoid that my car is declared as an accident car, propose to the guy that he pays for the repair in cash and then get it fixed somewhere without involving the insurance.

get an estimate from the dealer and ask the guy to pay you so it doesn't affect his insurance. Then buy the part and put it on yourself. Looks easy.
