Does nitrous require fuel upgrades?

Been considering nitrous lately but I don't know much about it. I understand the dangers involved, but have seen quite a few people using it reliably without any issues. One of the main questions I have is...does it require fuel upgrades? Can you use it on a engine that is already near its limit on fueling?

Varies by modification and how taxed the current fueling set up already is. A naturally aspirated lt1 can spray up to a 200 shot on the factory fuel system. On a supercharged or turbo lt1, I would only consider nitrous on a stand alone set up with its own dedicated fuel delivery system (fuel cell, etc), otherwise the fuel system will need to be upgraded to accommodate the nitrous.

Yes a GM plate system is good for a 200 shot all day long, I recommend an AFR gauge to monitor though. AFR around 11.5 to 12.2 also a hobbs switch to monitor fuel pressure. It'll be fast. PM me if you need help.

That stock pump is only good for about 650ish. The nice thing about nitrous is that it won't require a high side upgrade or tax the injectors. You can pair it up with a low side upgrade if necessary.

From what i have seen online and around me, if you are running nitrous and have just a bolt on set up the most you should rely on to be safe is a 150, If you have heads and cam you might be able to do a 150, but if you are spraying a 150 or more, i would recommend a stand alone fuel system which you can fill up with higher octane fuel like c16 or ms109 to ensure you are feeding the car exactly what it needs and not worry about a lean spike or lower octane fuel that could cause pre detonation. I run a 175 shot with c16 in a stand alone and still pull 6 degrees of timing and the car runs great has gone through over 6-7 15lb bottles without a hick up.

also, any difference in a ss 1LE vs a base ss with regard to low side fueling?

The SS 1LE has the ZL1 low side pump already installed. The HPFP and injectors are the same between SS and SS 1LE though.

I've never really looked into nitrous, so I don't know much about it either. My thing is it seems like it isn't worth it since its not there all the time and I'm not exactly sure but I think a bottle goes pretty quick and you also need a inconspicuous area to mount it. I run E85 100% of the time, but I don't really see anyone run E85 with nitrous but I see no reason why I wouldn't get the same benefits with E85 as using race fuel and a stand alone fuel delivery system?

It’s definitely an on demand kind of thing.

How long a bottle lasts obviously depends on how much volume you are running & how big the bottle is.

I’ve ran a range of a 75HP dry system to a 250HP wet 2-stage. It got to the point I was burning 2 20lb bottles a week. It’s great until the bottle runs dry.

Very important point there which keeps happening. People don't say exactly what they are talking about and then answers don't fit the car. OP lists a ZL1 in his profile and said that he is nearing the limits of the fuel system already. Therefore IMO it would be foolish to tap off the low side for a nitrous system on this car. The much smarter way to go IMO would be to use a standalone fuel system for the nitrous.

My stock fuel system supports my 850 flywheel and 730 rear wheel HP, using only boost as the adder. I would advise against two power adders.
