AFM delete

I tuned out the AFM with Hp tuners. My engine light is on, and if I turn if off and start the car. The light comes back on and the oil pressure gauge drops and the engine shuts down. After restarting the light is on, the oil pressure is normal and it's runs fine. Any suggestions on what might be the problem.

Thought the cams for AFM are ground special for AFM. Doesn't seem like you could just turn it off
Yes I've heard people do and sell devices to do so, but I think you need the supporting mods first

While there may be a cam difference between the LS3 and the L99 (AFM/VVT variant), the real difference is in the lifters (8 of them) that are controlled by the computer. The computer commands 4 electric solenoids that either allow or block oil passage to those lifters, thereby controlling the valves for those cylinders.

Did you do anything mechanically to the engine when you were disabling AFM? Just using HP Tuners to disable AFM should not have caused any type of oil pressure issues, IMO. To me, that sounds like a mechanical issue of some sort.

Can you post your tune file for us to check out?

Disabling it in the ECM shouldn't effect anything else. You might have another issue to look at. Start with that cel you got, you should be able to read it with your HP tuners.

How did you do it? Did you just switch DOD to disabled in the tune, save it and call it a day?

That shouldn't have affected anything. That's how I have my winter tune set up.

I did the delete over six months ago, it's on my son's car and there are no drivability issues at all. Only upgrade is long tube headers. I'm going to enable the AFM and see what happens with the engine light.

What's the CEL? If you have long-tubes, is it a catalytic code? Or is the car leaning out too much? Did you tune for the long-tubes?

A lot of people tune out AFM so that shouldn't be an issue. I would start with getting the code read and go from there.
