BTR valve springs re-use

I just changed out my springs on my BTR stage 4 cam with about 30000 miles on them. Can the spring be reused on a cam that`s not as aggressive? I have an L99 that I will be putting a stage 3 cam in soon. I hate to throw them away if they can be re-used. Springs, keepers, titanium retainers, seats all appear to be in excellent condition.

I wouldn't recommend it for a few reasons.

Those springs and hardware are tired, which may cause valve control issues at higher rpm. What you don't see is just as dangerous, such as metal fatigue and stress fractures.

Most importantly, I do not know of any stage 3 cam that isn't considered high lift. Every L99 stage 3 cam I have seen is over 600 lift.

But in the end its your car. Just my 2 cents.

You got 30K miles of good use out of them.

Toss them in the pile for recycle metals and move on.....re-use everything else.

New springs are too inexpensive.....to risk using old springs that could fail and kill your engine catastrophically.

They are so cheap just replace them, don't re-use.

I was thinking about having them checked out. I was was told that changing springs are a recommendation not a necessity. Thanks

i wouldnt reuse them. but since they're off already, you can ask BTR what they would charge to test/check them for you and base your decision off of that

do a preliminary visual inspection of them at home yourself. put them all on a flat surface and lay a straight edge over the top of all of them. if you see any inconsistencies in uninstalled height, toss them. If not, then you decide if you want to send them to BTR for further testing for presure and everything else

a new $230 set of springs is good peace of mind and cheap insurance

Maybe real cheap on CL. So many people putting junkyard LS motors together on a shoestring budget, maybe someone will trade a couple cases of beer for them for a mud bogger or derby car. If you put anything LS on CL your phone will be ringing as soon as you hit Publish on that ad.

Or... if you travel and track it, should always have a tote full of spares in the trailer. Throw a couple in that tote, pitch the rest.
