ARP Header stud kit vs header bolts

Yes, I searched, didn’t find much on it.

The next project for my Camaro is headers and exhaust. Picked up these barely used Kooks headers for $500. I’m in the process of getting everything required for the job. Looking at ARP header studs specifically. The appeal of easier header installation and good looks has me sold.

Has anyone run this model specifically? If so, any tips or things that are a little wonky for our application?

I literally installed my headers yesterday, and if that's a picture of what you're getting, pretty sure you're 2 short, I needed 6 per side, 12 total. I used bolts, not sure if the fastener makes a big difference, but from what I read, I'd stick with the GM gasket, others seemed to get bad feedback on leaking.

Good luck with install!

Be sure to remember exactly where the oil dip stick tube goes because getting that thing back in is a pain. Also spray your O2 sensors with PB Blaster the night before and again before you start disassembly. WD-40 will not work, but PB Blaster can save you from needing to buy new O2 sensors because of ruined threads. Other than that it's pretty straight forward.

Good catch, I almost ordered the wrong kit. This one below should be the kit for LS3’s. I’ve heard about the OEM GM gaskets from RPM’s YouTube videos (that’s where the car will be going to get tuned as well). Thanks again for catching that.

I’ve heard about the dipstick tube being a pain. Luckily this isn’t my daily so if it takes two weeks, so be it. Speaking of the O2’s, I’ll need extension harnesses correct?

Yep. The front O2 sensors are what the extensions are for and you'll definitely need them. There's a few other little things with installing like tighten bolts first to 10 ft/lbs then to 18 ft/lbs then recheck again after a full heat cycle to 18 ft/lbs again. Also GM manifold gaskets are best to use. Don't bother with the gaskets from the header companies and especially the goop that some try to include with their headers.

In think it depends on the time of day, humidity, moon phase, length of arm hair, age you reached puberty, and how many pets you have.

First time I removed mine for my header install I got it back in within 30 seconds like it was nothing, almost like it was meant to be. When I did my engine swap it took me over an hour to get the damned thing in.

Lol, well let’s hope the fact that I have no pets plays no factor.

It’s cool, I already have the Kooks catless connection pipes, they’re just not pictured.
