So here she sits, fully detailed down to bolts and washers in the wheel wells.....and COVID-19 basically destroys the entire car scene here in central PA. The only show in months was the Chevrolet Nationals at Carlisle that I was planning on attending but rained out.

So I have a feeling this is how she’ll sit for a very long time. Was just telling my family that I probably won’t even get it inspected this year, just straight rolling 2019 stickers and couldn’t care less

Another upcoming project, picked up these lightly used Kooks 1-7/8” long tubes for $500 local, Kooks cat delete pipes were ordered off eBay the same day for $180. Going to have both of them sent out to get ceramic coated, more than likely Jet Hot.

I want this car to sound absolutely nasty, it’s rarely driven so I’m not worried about drone or the obnoxious looks from neighbors. I’m waiting for either some freak event or more than likely a Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale for a Corsa ZL1 3” exhaust system. Pretty sure this is about as raw as you can get short of dumps or strait pipe which do not sound good on LS3’s IMO.

PA inspection sucks. i lived there over 20 years ago i speak from experience. the stickers are a joke. in NC we have emissions and safety and somehow no need for stickers it's linked to your vin.

Agreed, like so many things associated with this state and cars, it’s a scam. $40 to have a machine linked to the PA DOT pressure test your gas cap? And that’s supposed to be an “emissions test”....what a joke.

At least we got rid of the registration stickers you had to put on your plates every year. That is now linked to your plate and police cruiser computers can auto read it.

Car is coming along nice. Paint goals for sure. Gloss black wheels on black cars looks so good. Makes me want to powder coat mine.

Thank you! I go back and forth on the wheels, I don’t want the car to be a sea of black but it does look good. Darth Vader esque.

I still plan on finding a set of OE ZL1/1LE wheels, we’ll see how that looks.

Not much of an update, washed her up a few weekends ago for a local Cars & Coffee. I got stuffed in between a Lambo and a Porsche, couldn't make the 5th gen look any bigger lol.

Also, I made the terrible mistake of washing the car then stuffing it right inside the garage without driving it or applying something like Hydes Rust Stop. The rotors rusted over and bronzed the wheels as you can see below. So embarrassing for how clean I keep this car.

Cars and Coffee at the Hershey Auto Museum, this meet was awesome. Much better representation this time around as I washed the car directly after the last show. This will probably be it for 2020, what a year.

Christmas present from my family, the Hurst shifter and upgrade pit pack. What a pain in the ass to install. The gauge pack + my link head unit = damn near impossible to disassemble without scratching them. The pit pack wasn’t pleasant either, had to squeeze them in further while the shifter was already in the car....ugggghhh.

I know the Hurst has been tossed to the wayside in the later years in favor of Barton/MGW. I understand those shifters may best the Hurst but they don’t look as good. My Dad had a Hurst in his ‘69 SS, my old Z28 had a Hurst, I just love that classic muscle look. Plus my car had the optional Hurst, I couldn’t stand the feel of the stock leather shift knob. The Q ball feels 10X better.

While working on another project for another post, I had the car on the lift and glanced underneath to make sure everything was ok and I’m glad I did. I could see the oil filter was moist and there was standing oil on the subframe. It looks like the very common leak at the neck of the oil “cooler”.

After doing some research it appears that thing is worthless at best and a detriment on the other end. I really like the idea of the oil being actually cooled and I plan on getting the Mishimoto oil cooler setup but minus that wonky oil filter sandwich plate, I’ll go with an Earls/Holley/etc legit oil distribution block.

In the meantime I bought the full kit from Improved Racing to delete the OE oil cooler completely and stop the leak. Also picked up a Gold Plug magnetic drain plug because why not, fresh Dexcool and Mobil 1 are on the way.

So, the only reason I found that oil leak is because I had the car up in the air test fitting OE ZL1 front and rear splash guards. I just couldn’t leave well enough alone and decided that I didn’t like the ZL1 Addons hardware that mounted the splash guards to the 3 block setup in the rear. I wanted to use the same hex head screws that holds the fender liner in place.

As soon as I started taking the screws out I could feel some of the blocks were barely holding on to the bumper. I had heard these were problematic but I figured it was just because the people who said that “weren’t doing it right”...no, it’s just not a good design.

On top of that, either one of the blocks themselves or a rock nailed the ONLY VISIBLE PART of the rear fender liner. You know, I can’t have this...

Solution: new OE ZL1 rear splash guards, used some small Dorman trim panel clips to cover the un-used hole that the ZL1 would use for its more complicated rear bumper setup. I also ordered and installed a new OE rear fender liner to replace the one that got slashed above.

Here is everything finalized and coated in Carpro Perl plus a rear shot of the difference between the two setups.

Finally back together after months of being ripped apart in my garage. Fresh coolant and oil, took a while to bleed the system but it wasn’t too bad. Took the opportunity to clean the wheels off the car and detail it front to back.

Finished just in time for the Hershey Auto Museum Cars & Coffee, quick flyby at 2:04
