engine assembler's name plate

Search function is not working. I remember seeing some posts a while back about the little name plate on the engine indicating who assembled the engine. Does this mean that the ZL1 engine is hand built? Thanks.

Only certain ones. These were for the Z06 and there was an additional charge ($5,000?) for the hand assembled engine. Obviously, there were some left-overs and these have found their way into the ZL1. I have no information on how or how many or how to find one.

Search function works for me. IIRC had something to do with the strike.
Recent info on plaques basically starts on post 14

Yes, I'm aware. When I hit it a while ago I got a page not working message. Works now.

All the LT4 engines for the Z06 were hand assembled in Bowling Green. The LT4 engines for the ZL1 are robot built with hand assistance in Tonawanda, NY.

Some left over engines that were built in Bowling Green did find their way into the ZL1. That is why they have the name plate on them. Now to keep the engine builders up to speed and maintain their skills, they are continuing to build LT4 engines for the Camaro.

There is no additional charge for the Z06 hand built engine. The $5000 charge is for the buyer of a Z06 to participate in the Engine Build Experience at Bowling Green. I did this option on my Z06 and it was a fantastic experience. I hand built my entire engine with the guidance of one of the engine builders from bare block to initial fire up. My name is on the build plaque.

Wish they offered the builder option on ZL1. I've met a few Z06 owners who did it and they all said it was an amazing experience.

I agree... I’d pay the extra $ for the opportunity to build my own engine.

Thanks for the correct information. I learned something that I didn't know about the Z06.
