Clutch Upgrade
I wanted to get a new clutch for my 2012 camaro 2ss. its a 6spd I was wondering if I should just go with 2 disc or 3 disc. I just need something that is a decent price that is still good. Any recommendations?

There is a lot of missing information if you want a valid answer. Are you still stock? If not, what power adders do you have installed and what HP are you pushing. If you are stock just go with a stock type unit. You’ll just be throwing away money otherwise.

I have had two twin disk cluthes and now have a spec 3+ single disk. My car dynod 610 rwhp and I am sold on the spec 3+. Drives like stock and handle drag strip runs.
One of the twin disk clutches had vibration and the other ended up with warped disks. |

I've been shopping for one also and looked up the chevy part numbers and found out they use the same clutch from 10' to 15' all model Camaro's and the 13' zr1 corvette. the vette motor is rated at 604 lbs ft of torque so a stock clutch is rated for that or else there would be recalls out the but.

A question, when changing a clutch in today's car, do you also need to change the pressure plate?

Yeah see, that’s just an LS7 clutch, it’s not the clutch that LS9s came with. GM says the LS7 clutch will fit on a ZR1 but that isn’t what it came with nor do I think it would hold the power of an LS9 for an extended period of time. The LS9 has a dual disc clutch with a different pressure plate. They apparently discontinued it, it’s part number is 24260226.

why would they do that if it wouldn't hold the 604 torque. that's what I'm saying that would be interesting if that dual disc is still available. did you look up that part number did they say discontinued?

The dual disc is discontinued. The did it because they are required to manufacture replacement parts for vehicles for a certain period of time I believe and they didn’t want to keep spending extra money just to manufacture one specific clutch for one specific engine that they don’t even make anymore except as a crate motor. Plus, if an LS9 owner replaces his clutch he is going with a aftermarket one for more power, I doubt any of them are looking for a OEM replacement. Most guys with max effort LS3s on here are destroying the stock LS7 clutch in 50,000 miles. Trust me, the LS7 clutch would get wore out on a LS9.

just looked that number up discontinued, it said also it wouldn't fit a 13' corvette. don't I just don't understand why they would use that as a replacement if it didn't handle the power

understand, I don't get it . car dealers used to have to have parts available for cars up to 10 years out of production. just like the rubber coupler for the 2 piece drive shaft can't get those anymore either.

If you are NA, there are plenty of single disc clutches that will hold 500+whp. Those will be the most cost friendly and leg effort is not much different than stock. If you are thinking of going FI go ahead and get a dual. If you plan on nearing the 1000hp mark, get a triple. I don't think GM makes clutches, so factory units are probably not the way to go, i.e. they just come from Luk or Sachs.
I run a Mantic triple. They have mixed reviews, but mine works well and might be a little overkill for what I'm currently running. I think most guys run McLeod or Monster. I have a Ram single in the vert with a cammed 416 and I like it too.
