My coworker sent me this this morning. He has a hellcat.

I love what Dodge is doing. The hellcat wouldn't work for me because drag racing is 3rd on my list of activities to do in my car. You can't deny though that drag racing is fun and is the most accessible form of racing.

Going fast in a straight line is still pretty important for the fun factor.

So if Dodge could barely get the Hellcat to pass emissions in '14-'15, why is there any reason to believe they can squeeze more power out of it now? It's not like they are adding DI or other fuel/emissions saving tech since there have been absolutely zero rumors about any improvements with the HEMIs. The only rumors are the HEMI maybe gone for the next gen. And the emissions testing doesn't get easier each year.

I'm not saying it's not possible, but is there anything anyone has seen/read that makes a compelling case for more power? I mean Dodge has been making cuts everywhere to save money. I just don't see them having the spare cash to use on a car that sells at so small a volume. Which is exactly why a widebody kit with better rubber is an easy option for them, it's a cheap fix to improve it.

Charger is the 5.7 which is the limit, and they have had some issues with them as I said.

The Jeep AWD system is totally different, stronger, but not able to fit under an LX platform.

Most Hellcats don't run anywhere near what Dodge says with normal drivers, just look at all the road tests with good drivers and DA conversions. Even with wider tires, if they add more power to this thing it will be the same story as the platform just doesn't have the capabilities. IMO, they should add the wider tires, but leave the power alone and make it work as is.

I'm kinda worried about the look. I was hoping in this price point they would make different fenders like the Corvette has. But it seems bolt on/tape on fenders may be what they use. Which if that is the case is really cheap looking and a disappointment.

What are you talking about? I put on the largest Mopar event in the south east each year and loads of Hellcats show up. I've watched a ton of them best Dodge claimed numbers. We do it in Bowling Green, KY at Beach Bend in April just like you guys do CamaroFest. You guys should come out and see what real people do with their Hellcats. DA conversion? DA barely affects FI cars at all, they make their own atmosphere.

I can't get excited about Dodge anything. When I think of Mopar, I think of trailer parks and mullets and that video didn't help.

I see them all the time at the track as I spend lots of time there. Never seen one run the number Dodge claims they can on stock tires ever with my own eyes.

DA, also does affect FI cars, just less so...

It's going to be badass no matter what. Who cares if it can't turn? Dodge doesn't, and this thing will sell like crazy. A minority of buyers of performance cars ever test their cars handling beyond a cloverleaf getting on the highway. Props to Dodge for building the fastest straight line car they can. They'll regain the lead in the modern muscle wars.

...and by the looks of things this will most likely be Dodges swan song when it comes to full on cars like this. Once the LX platform dies in a few years it looks like most of these cars will go V6TT, that is if any of them stick around. FCA is controlled by the Fiat side, and if they don't think it's worth it, they won't bother. All they seem to care about was getting Ram and Jeep. Even they just admitted this week that the Dart and 200 were total junk...
