Tie down method

Picked up a zl1 and need some advice on strapping this thing down to trailer it to get a clear bra installed, are there any holes in the frame to hook the strap too? I rather not go around the wheels and don’t have a E track on my trailer.

Rent a U-Haul trailer. It will have the webbing that you can use for the front wheels. And, as long as you are traveling decent roads and not going "too far", it will sit nice and still without strapping anything down at the rear.

You will likely need some wood blocks or similar to drive the front wheels onto at the front of the trailer so that the splitter clears the trailer. I used 2x12's cut to about 18" in length so they wouldn't interfere with the web straps.

I installed e-track in my trailer (it didn't have it originally) and I bought straps that go over the OD (outside diameter) of the tires and do not touch the car at all just the tires.

The same way they do from the factory: Over the tires.

Of your trailer isn't set up for this. Get a better trailer.

These are pretty cool. I use the A Arms and rear cradle. I was thinking about changing to not loading the suspension buy strapping to the wheels/tires.

I strap my cars down using an over the tire strap that attaches to my etrack. The strap attaches to the etrack at the very back of the tire, over the tire and again through an idler attachment at the very front of the tire that attaches again to the etrack. The idler attachment allows for tying down extremely low vehicles. Manual transmission cars should be hauled in neutral with the park brake set and autos in park with the park brake set.

No etrack is going to make it more difficult and will likely require a through the wheel tie down strap which can be tied to either tie down rings front and back or to other corner tie downs.

I just worry pulling the car out of alignment doing it this way , really sucks there’s no holes in the frame to tie to with a I hook.

Hauled cars for years with over the tire straps and have never heard of or seen a car that had been pulled out of alignment because of tire straps. I do center the strap on the etrack so any force is directly forward or directly rearward.

Hauling a car requires the right trailer, the correct setup, and the proper equipment. Otherwise….

I got the sense from your original post that this was a one-off situation. Your comment here seems more in line with long-term trailering needs. You've gotten responses that are all over the map in terms of one-time versus long-term trailering needs...

If you need to trailer once, rent the U-Haul. You won't be driving that far and there will be zero issues that arise from hauling it like that. If you're looking for something to drag the car to the track repeatedly, then it seems you may need to be looking for a different trailer or at least a different setup on the one you have.

For sure over the tire is definitely the way to go I was talking more in the limes of through the wheel and back to the tie down to the trailer which I think would cause too much reward or forward stress on the components

Agreed. Tying down using the wheels/tires as contact points should be done with straight ahead and straight behind tie down points.

Nice! Did you have any rock chips? I would be towing mine with an F450 and I am wondering if I should buy one of those big rock guards that goes on the hitch.

How was the door clearance with the fender folded down?
