SSport,

I did the foam clay bar on my car. There was a lot of rail dust that was easy to see on my white car. Tiny orange specs of iron that seem like they are almost embedded in the paint.

i don't know a whole lot about detailing but not sure I'd want to skip that step.

I was all set to clay bar, but I did the ziplock test, nothing came up, I inspected the paint very carefully, nothing there.

I don't doubt you at all. Looking at your location there may not have been much rail transport involved. My car had to travel by rail all the way to Oregon.

Just felt the need to say something. People should check their paint carefully prior to buffing.

With that much rail dust did you use iron X on the paint?

Not a whole lot really, just some small items like a cargo mat at some point, already bought the mats, cargo net, etc. Really love the look and the options I ordered. I may look into the GM intake, if it provides any real gains.

Thanks.

I did not. But I did use the nanoskin prep sponge over every inch of the car. Using the sponge per glen e's guide is actually very sensitive. You can feel every little bit of crap embedded in the paint. It's even effective removing tar. First wash + the sponge took a couple hours. I'm sure iron X would have been helpful but I didn't buy it.

I was lucky that I picked up my car before they were able to detail it at the dealership. They were able to install the LPO items and my salesman filled it with super. I told them not to bother with the wash and that I'd take care of it.

just want to tack this on as the gloss caught me off guard after a coat thursday...the amazing thing about this stuff is not it's "better" than other products, it's HOW FAST you can get this done, this was 20 minutes...wipe on, walk away....look at it two hours later...wow.
