Thank you guys. I'm definitely upset but at the end of the day its replaceable.
It looks like it was done with something sharp. The scratches go way into the plastic. Its just odd that it starts perfectly at the top. Nothing else was damaged. Perhaps invest in parking cameras?? If you guys know of a reasonably priced systems please let me know. Ps. I was parked at the end of the block so nobody could Park behind me |

The scratches are so parallel to one another... it looks like something backed into it and thats why its on the vertical side of the bumper. Is it possible it happened in a parking lot prior and you didn;t notice it.

I see a small hole (maybe from a plate frame bolt) and what looks like a license plate frame indentation. Maybe someone hit you and then intentionally scraped it up so their license plate numbers wouldn't be visible?

My guess would be one of those string weed wacker/edger...
It looks like a fast repetitive motion coming down from the top of the bumper and down. It's hard some someone to manually do that repetitively at the same spot but very easy if you have something that spins fast but flexible enough (which explain a slight curve to the scratch) not to shred the bumper. ... have no idea about the hole. |

Hole is from a bolt/brackett holding alicense plate, the rest is from the gate. There is no way to make those scratches that parallel by hand. JMHO

Dam you might have hit it on the money, that sounds like it could very well be the culprit! Being parked where no one can come from the back of the car this more makes sense now...

I don't think this was intentional just for the fact that to cover such a large area and to perfectly stop right at the angle where the bumper retreats back into the tail lamps, it must have been something pretty large making contact with the car from a perfectly "rearward" direction such that only one "plane" was affected. Something came into contact with it from behind, causing the initial scratches, and as they pulled away they probably turned, causing the diagonal scratches.
