Ford sends out a letter to owners. You have to buy a new SD card for $149 to update the Sync2 system. I just get a used one one eBay for $30 so I'm a year or two behind in the Fusion.

GM (actually their affiliate) sends a custom, VIN locked pen drive to those that buy the update, so there isn't much of an "aftermarket" there as far as I know.

This is the main reason when I special ordered my 2SS 1LE.I specifically told the dealer I did not want the factory Nav system.Because of that they almost did not place my order. They said they always put the Nav on 2SS trim level Camaro's.I told them why would i order their Nav system. When i have my smart phone with Google maps........The dealer agreed with me and said he always uses his smart phone and not the factory Nav.
LOL.....

Yeah, I understand. My main reason for going with the nav option was HUD and DIC integration, which I absolutely love (as I said in another similar thread). I can display nav instructions in the HUD, have one view in the DIC along with the speed limit from the factory nav, and have a third view on the infotainment screen while the nav voice spells out the next turn or maneuver. The HUD helps me a lot with tricky exits (2-3 a few hundred feet from each other) and in unknown areas, as I don't have to look up and down again and again at the screen or the phone, plus I hate cable mess around the center console and having to plug in and unplug the phone (I use the wireless charging pad). Google Maps is clearly superior technologically, but I'm willing to trade some quality for the above advantages. Oh, and GM isn't flawless either, it also sends me down the wrong route occasionally.

but they will update your maps to the 1950s. actually google maps still show 2 roads by my house that were closed in the 50s. they are woods now but the gps still says to take them. the speed limits nice until you get a ticket for doing 55 in a 45 because all these soccer moms or people who think its the 1950s go to the town meetings and get the speed limit changed out in the middle of the country amongst farmers fields.
