big turbo, misfire
Hi, first of all, the mod list:
new forged engine efr7163 turbo(.80 t4 twin scroll) custom exhaust manifold(42mm inside) zzp cam ngk spark plug 90543 ILTR7E9(0.035") zzp air intake kit zzp intercooler kit AEM water-methanol injection kit premium fuel Just after I finished my big turbo plan, I tune it with HP. It was really strange that if the pressure was 22psi, everything is ok. But when I tried to increase the pressure level, then the car started act like misfire since WOT. The exhaust sounded like "pop" and "boom". I've checked the fuel pump pressure (in-tank) and it's ok, the spark plugs were new and the coils were good. I can't figure out what's the problem. Maybe the exhaust manifold is too thick?Or the turbine house is too big?Did I need to re-gap the spark plugs?Or chane the fuel pump with a high flow one? I really need some help. |

Im not sure gap or heat range on sparkplugs you should be using, but increasing boost may be blowing out the spark and causing the misfires. Just a guess, maybe try closing the gap and seeing if any difference?

v8 here. at 20psi I was getting spark blow out at .028. I took them all the way down to .020 and that fixed that problem. then above 6500 rpm I was getting a hard miss and that was valve springs. I had good springs but they were not installed at the correct height. once they were shimmed properly that problem went away.

I don't have any experience with the particular plug you are running, but I successfully held 24'peak psi with NGK 6510's, gapped @.028, with no misfires on the stock turbo, before switching to a non-projected tip style plug.
Also, posting a log in HPT could be helpful as well. Might be a fuelling issue. But, your gap is definitely on the high side.

Sounds like spark blow out. I've had it a couple times. I've had good luck getting rid of it taking my gap down to .029"

I would never run a gap larger than .028 even on a stock car and would be down in the .024 range or lower in your case, depending on your target boost. I run 6510's at .026 at 22+psi, but on stock turbo.
