Some of those limitations are in place for reasons other than horsepower or aero. For instance, some tire packages restrict a vehicles top speed; also, drive train components like driveshafts can also have an impact upon top speed restrictions.

It has been stated that the top speed of the 6gen Camaro is limited from the aero to 186 mph. I’ve done 186 in my 2017 SS 1LE. However I do have a tune and am pushing 450hp/460tq to the wheels.

What kind of mods do you have ? And Was your speed gear limited/ aero or just ran out of room ? That’s a great speed , I thought the 1les were less aerodynamic than the regular ss cars

LS/LT: 149
V6 1LE: 155
SS Vert: 155
SS 1LE: 175
SS Coupe: 180
ZL1 Coupe: 198

The 1LE has more drag than the standard SS due to wider tires and probably more drag to generate some additional downforce. (or to negate lift)
The SS Vert limit of 155 is set as the governor in the ECM as far as I've heard.

SS Coupe governor in ECM is set at 180. Though I think reaching an honest 180 would be quite good if it can do it in reality.

ZL1 Coupe governor is above 198, so perhaps that is a real drag-limited top speed.

From what I remember the zl1s top speed is the drag limited average, it did over 200 one way but couldn’t match it the opposite way.

Gen6 Camaro and C7 vette have poor top speed and high speed performance for their power...

My old euro 3.0 E36 M3 (286hp) from 1994 was able to go around 175 with the govenor disabled...aero was really good and perfect gearing... 5th gears and above are a joke on both C7/Camaro...as well as probably bad drag caused by downforce.

But I highly give up top speed perf for handling

The vert top speed is electronically limited, the other values are not.

Regarding the brimmer. No sedan with 286 Hp is going to hit 170. A 2003 evo at 279 hp topped out at 149. Below is directly from a bmw e36 M3 speed run.

The current M3 with 453 HP has a top speed of 174 mph. Sound familiar? It should, it’s about the same as the Camaro 1LE which is not a surprise considering it has about the same HP.

It is governed. Current M3 with 431 or 450 goes above 186 unlimited.

The SS Coupe definitely has a governor at 180, I've read the stock tune. As I also mentioned, not sure it actually goes that fast. Just pointing out that their claim exactly matches what the governor is set to.

People need to remember that indicated speed on the speedometer and the true GPS speed are often very different when you're well into the triple digits. OEM calibrations for speedometers *ALWAYS* read high by a percentage.

BMWs seems to be one of the worst offenders with most cars seeming to have a 10% +5mph tolerance which is an absolute joke. No shortage of guys boasting about doing 17xmph in their 155mph limited cars just because the speedometer said so.

The front end of 5th and 6th gen camaros looks like a brick wall , it’s so square and large compared to how slick the 4th gens looked.
