Using XPEL on your door sills/pics/how to

So here's an easy project you can do if you're new to modding cars, that will also protect your door sills. The doorsill on the upscale Pkg can be covered with XPEL, the same stuff that you use on the front end of your car. It's sold on Amazon for about 20 bucks and looks far better than any plastic covers, in my opinion. One package like below does both sills. It is “sacrificial” meaning over a year, it will get dinged, but your sill stays new.And then you put on again.

So all you do is put it on “wet” by soaking it in a spray bottle that is mixed up with a little bit of dishwashing soap and water. Measure many times, cut once. Spray down the sill (after cleaning) and spray down the film sticky side and lay it on. It’ll be able to be moved around for perfect positioning, then you can press out the bubbles with your wet fingers and a supplied squeegee..... and the rest the sun will dry. Move from the middle to outward wedges. Don't worry about tiny bubbles around the letters, they will fade. It's great if you can keep this in the sun for a couple hours afterwards. Tomm, trim carefully with razor blade if needed.

If done right, you will be the only one that knows it’s there….Enjoy!

box (sorry, upside down but you get the idea)

Measure, measure, then cut

spray both sides, lay it out (keep fingers off the sticky side) smooth with fingers/squeegee

final drying

final drying a bit later

will attach a pic tomm as well

I use it in a lot of places, it just has to go on smooth surfaces, not dimply stuff like the dash surface - One place I see I will do tomm, is the door handle pockets, cut an oval and lay it down, as I have a few lady friends that with longer nails, so that area get scratched, not OCD, I mean really scratched over the years.

it also is used over splitters and the like, esp some 1/4" xpel on leading edge.

Glen e,
You have amazing insights into taking care of a new car.
I would suggest we have a new category on the camaro6 home page for this stuff.
Its great info and I don't want it to fade away in these general threads.

I like to trade in my stuff every couple years so im big into stuff like this that protect with little expense or effort. If you sell your stuff, you absolutely get more $ when the usage area like seats and sills dont look beat up. Was a used car mgr for a few years, appraised many.

Yep, its been floating around the camaro, honda and vette boards for a few years. Read them in order. I wrote training materials for years, so it's a really easy read , I've been told. Especially if your brand-new to detailing. Those that already know how to detail, don't need this. I just found it if you're not OCD and want an easy way to do this, and not be a slave to it , my method is great. Its actually master detailer todd helme's method, i just explained it from a novice POV.

That looks like a great product for many areas that you decide yourself need protection..

I had a much more substantial clear bra applied professionally to the front, headlights, and backs of mirrors, it was frustrating to see my black 2010 get all the rock chips because I bought it used and it was too late...

Great to see a demo on how to put that on.. I think I'm going to have to pick some up...

I'm learning all this from the ground up too. I want my car to be a collectors car in 20+ years. Need to start taking care of the car now, not just then.

Thank you for your detailing posts Glen!

I've never used xpel. How easy would it be to remove from the sills?

It peels right off.... minimal residue. I won't publish a mod if there would be a huge downside like it being hard to get off, scratches, is very visible, etc.. This mod has no downside.

Thanks,
Just not familiar with that product. I see they offer 4 door handle pieces already cut so you don't get any wrinkles or bubble for 5.99. May be a little easier for that area for people without experience with this product.
