Expel works!

Took a rock about the size of a golf ball over the weekend to the carbon fiber insert on the hood and it hardly put a pin mark in the clear wrap with zero damage to the hood. Ill probably replace just the insert portion wrap but that crap works. It was like a magic rock, I saw it come off a trailer and cross 3 lanes to land right on the hood in slow motion, thank goodness it kept in the same direction and cleared the car.

Yes the stuff is very impressive. I have the Suntek but same idea. Sometimes I’ll wipe the car off at car shows with detailed. There will some swirls for a bit caused by the dirt from the drive. The sunshine takes care of that shortly and voila, no more swirls. I find it very impressive and makes the car way easier to clean. My car is black too.

I agree !! i'll need to replace the bumper part of my clear wrap. It must have had a small cut on it and when I used a power washer last weekend it caused a little bit of peeling.

clear wrap makes it a lot less stressful to keep the car clean and fee of chips

Are you saying that for "hardly a pin mark" you're going to replace the wrap on the entire CF hood insert? If you DIY that's one thing, but my wrap shop would charge at least $300 for that especially with removal of ZL1 emblems.

Great story though, I love my Expel especially at track

Yes it marked just the wrap and with my OCD its the only thing Ill look at on the car till I fix it, I already got a price of 450.00, Do you know if these pieces are available precut? I have seen the entire hood but not just the insert. I removed them in the past on my gen5 with a hair dryer.

Maybe the mark will go away with some heat from a heat gun? I would try that first.

I have the PPF too and am so glad I did it. In the same vein I also did tear-offs on the windshield and man I’m glad I did. I’ve had small rocks hit my windshield at very high speeds and on the PDR you can tell it really softens the blow. Also when the top layer gets pitted I just rip it off and it’s like I have new windshield.

I tried a little heat and I think it looks worse now, I tried to lay it down with the back of my thumb nail and it actually looks worse. I found a guy on eBay that sells the 3M 8ml precut for the hood insert if you contact him direct. Even cut outs for the emblems if I want. I already ordered it for 100.00. Ill just take my time and install it.

I should look into that windshield stuff too.
Too bad the heat didn’t work Pauly. 100 bucks isn’t bad though.

I been trying to get PPF installed since the first of March. As soon as I bought my Z tried to make an appointment and guy was booked until last week. Dropped the car off (no easy task as the shop is 100 miles away). A couple of days later owner called me up and told me he had received a defective roll of film. They noticed after doing most of the front end it was blotchy. Called the company and they agreed and said a batch had defects and they would send out replacement rolls as soon as they got it in stock. Now am scheduled for the third week of June. Its almost like the car is fighting me not to get it covered. So now back to my reduced driving mode trying to keep down the paint chips until the film is installed.

At least I was able to get squeezed back onto the schedule as the shop is now booked till almost the end of August.
Frustrating, but patience will prevail (I hope).
