Are Camaro owners keeping their cars too long effecting sales?

Saw this article about how long people keep their cars. Noticed that the Camaro is in third place for sports cars that are kept for 15 years or longer. Could it be that this is effecting sales of new Camaros? The Mustang and Challenger is nowhere to be found on the list. The Corvette is by the way.

I'm surprised Corvette isn't higher - I would think it would be higher than Camaro actually.

But how do they get this data - from 15 years ago? So what, buyers of the 2005 model years?? The fact that Camaro had a 8 year lapse in production must play into this. By a similar token the B5/6 S4 from the 2005 era with the V8 was replaced with a SCV6 motor, so I am betting a lot of those owners wanted nothing to do with the B7 model which boosted those numbers. And Corvette transitioned to the C6 after that and I bet a lot of owners wanted to upgrade from the C5 to the C6.

would love to see the data broken out year by year, the trade-in rate, etc. Also compared to mustang.

The thought has definitely occurred to me before. It seems anecdotally like people really hold on to their camaros, and that's got to be affecting sales. I mean most people who wanted a 6th gen already have one. It's such a good car, that I assume most people aren't looking to get rid of theirs.

I really doubt the people holding on the Camaros is anywhere near or associated with the problem. There simply aren’t that many of them. There may be a lot on this site, but not in the general public population.

When wages have been stagnant for decades and car prices have skyrocketed it's a no brainer as to why people are hanging on for all it's worth.

everything I have is for sale, for a price. you want my camaro, then pay for it. don't expect me to lose money on it just to trade in "for the new hotness". It's not worth it to me.

I traded my 2ss in and didn't lose a dime on it, otherwise I would have driven it back home, happily.

It's difficult to do that on a new vehicle much less than 3 years old, you just simply owe too much on it unless you make hella payments, which most people don't.

I was thinking along those lines too. 15+year Camaro original owners would be alot of 4th owners who saw the car go out of production. Maybe they thought about it would be collectible so kept it, or maybe the depreciation was higher after it went out of production, thus not willing to sell.

My plan is to keep my ZL1 for years to come until I can’t drive it anymore because of older age or we can’t buy gasoline anymore!
