SS 1LE oil changes

So I have regular ramps and I change the oil on our cars. Those ramps, however, will not work on the Camaro and I don’t have a low profile jack, jack pads nor Jack stands. Additionally the Camaro is not a daily driver and will probably only require one oil change per year. Knowing that, is it worth buying all the equipment needed for the oil change, or should I make an exception with this car and take it to the dealership for oil changes? Thoughts?

Based on your situation, it's easily $100-$200+ for the equipment. How much is the dealer charging and how long will it take to regain that money with the number of self-service oil changes you'd do?

Also if you have any other car you can start doing the oil changes on those too to save some more money.

Sell your regular ramps to offset the cost of new low profile ones which you can use for all of your cars. The difference will easily be recouped over time.

Regular ramps or low pro ramps that are still to high to clear the splitter...there's a difference.

I bet you like changing the oil yourself, right?

If so, why not indulge yourself and get Race Ramps? There's nothing better than working on your car WITH THE RIGHT TOOLS. Race ramps are expensive, but you will make the cost back in just a few oil changes, and you will be smiling too.

i have regular ramps and had no issues. drive on a 2x4 (or 2) before hitting the ramp.

2x6 and 2x10 boards work well for me, with regular black plastic ramps. My drive away has a natural incline so that helped. However, space is bit tight under the car. If I were doing oil changes on it more often than every 9 months (this was my first DIY oil change on this car, had an amazing dealer service prior to relocating) or so, I'd get race ramps.

Got the race ramps a few years ago. They're excellent to use for all our vehicles....and will be put to use as I'll be back in a Camaro again soon.

I use a 2x8 appx 24" in length but the concept is the same.

if you want to do it yourself, then buy some raceramps the 67''. as you know you'll have to deal to strore them and get the used oil&filter to safely dispose of it. all depends on if it bothers you do it..

if you don't spend for some ramps... take the phone ask for a appointement at the gm dealership, ...and it won't be now compared to do it yourself right now in your garage.. then you'll go and wait after them to do the job , pay and then leave.

it's all up to you. as for myself, i do it whenever i want, i havetime, the ramps,and oil/filter in hands. can do it whatever i feel like, no waiting.when i'm done,i take the old oil where i work to dispose of it.

take a nice cold beer and think about it..

So I just found out today that oil changes at the local dealership will run around $55, and that once in a while they have rebates/coupons @ General Motor Service website (I think there is one now for $15). That’s about 5.50 per quart, which isn’t too bad. With Costco coupons, I can probably get a quart myself for about $5 for a total of $50, but doesn’t include filter. Has anyone bought cheaper oil? I really do like changing my car’s oil, but this time around it might be more cost effective to let them do it (10 quarts, wow!)… I’d probably still install the lift pads to protect the car… Using the 2 x 4’s with standard ramps is great idea though!
