Brand new 2019 - no special coating from dealer, should i wash/prep/wax?

hey everybody,

So i have a 2019 Riverside Blue 2.0 that i got from the dealer on the 22nd. Alongside of it at the dealers lot they had two other Blue 2.0's which i think were automatics. So it may have been there for a few weeks before i picked it up. They did do a complementary wash when i drove off with it but i didnt do the special coating or whatever it was.

So i'm wondering if i should do anything to the car right now as sort of a preventative measure. I have an appointment with a reputable shop in town to get the car washed, prepped (clay bar?) and waxed. That's not considered overkill for a new car is it? should i wait a few months first, at least until summer months? in my area its been cold the last two months but i think around the 26th or 27th of Dec was when it got really cold and ice started to form on the car at 2-3am and its been like that ever since.

lmk what you all think, thanks =)

Definitely take it to your detailer. The dealership will have installed plenty of swirls from poor wash methods.

Lots of info in this forum, Autogeek.com and youtube.

When I bought my car I specifically instructed the dealer not to wash it.

It's definitely a good idea to get the paint protected as soon as possible. Congratulations!

Another vote for ceramic coating. It protects the paint and makes cleaning a lot easier.

Do NOT ceramic coat ur car.

It makes water spotting worse for some folks. And you have to polish it off to get rid of it.

I ceramic coated my Mazda just to give it a try. I take it to a touchless car wash every two weeks or so. Apart from that convenience factor, its not much better than just turtle wax seal and shine or Meguiar's hybrid ceramic wax.

I actually enjoy the re application of seal and shine every other month.....

I’d rather do a one step polish and put a sealant like jescar power lock every 3 months and beadmaker for maintenance wash. Love the look and protection is awesome! I enjoy to process too.

This is pretty much what I do (different products.) If you can't stand to see scratches and swirls, and you correct them right away, a paint sealant is cheaper than a coating.

Definitely ceramic coat it ASAP! After doing some research, I used ILG Kenzo. It has a five year warranty, with a super wet look and even reduces water spotting. Dirt just falls off it!

This! ....same thing I use. ...and don't discount the process. I enjoy the time it takes and look forward to doing it.

Ceramic is over hyped. It really is.
Where it really benefits is easy of washing and drying the car.
Very mildly helps with preventing light scratching from improper wash techniques.

I did a full ceramic coat on the car and idk why but i just didint like it. Some ceramics are better at one thing then the other. But for be, i am about done polishing off the ceramic coat and putting on some sealant Wolfgang wg-5500 sealant.

Ill be leaving the ceramic on the roof only. As a test to compare the ceramic to the sealant.

What is the Wolfgang stuff, some kind of polymer?
