Maybe GM is changing the way they release products. It doesn't make sense to offer a model only in the last year or two of its design run. It would be better to offer all models sooner and then update/modify them as needed to add excitement as the vehicle design ages.

It makes sense really. If they have the product in pipeline, ready to launch, why not launch it? It will help to keep folks from cross shopping to Ford or Dodge for the GT350 or Hellcat for one. It will also enhance the Halo effect of these cars, in hope that people just wanting to get a look at them stroll into the dealership and drive off in new Camaro that they can afford.

Makes me wonder what they're planning in the war room to keep it in the media for the 3rd and 4th years of the design cycle.

Usually, they space things out to keep the lineup from getting stale. They might have a big refresh planned for this car, so they don't need newer models later down the road.
