New Member in NY
Hey guys, just thought I'd drop by and introduce myself. I'm an Englishman living in NY, trying to decide between a ZL1, 1LE and a C6 Z06. I'm not sure if I want to commit to the Z06 because I'm worried about the LS7 engine blowing up, so will quite possibly have a ZL1 some time in the new year. Any major issues that I should look out for? I haven't seen any mentioned from a quick browse of the forum.

Bobby, Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5/6. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wives', husbands, girlfriends and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.
oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!!

ZL1s are awesome, you wont be disappointed. I own an SS, but the ZL1 has all hte upgrades I wish I could afford. I have a friend who works at a tuning shop that only works on corvettes, camaros, and other LS engine based platforms, the 5th gen ZL1 is his favorite, even more than the vettes!

Thanks guys. I have a question as I'm new to car ownership in the US - how stringent are emissions controls in NY? If I buy a car with the cats removed, do I need to replace them each time the car's tested?

You can get away with "dummy" cats in NY, most inspectors aren't looking inside. I have hi-flow cats and only the front O2 sensors and it passes.

NY doesn't plug emissions sensors on the tailpipe that I have seen yet so aside from a shop recognizing your cat situation is shop dependant.

Would I be disappointed if I got a ZL1 then drove a Z06 afterwards though?
I know ZL1s are beasts and I'll have a lot of fun in one. The purist in me is still drawn to the light weight and dry sumped LS7 of the Vette... It's a tough life :( |
