Ok, I am a moron - Tires

So, I got frustrated on the Discount tire website trying to order a pair of 305/30R20 Nitto G555RII tires for my ZL1. I mean, I could find no way to ship them to my house, they wanted to ship them to one of their stores.

So, I gave up and went to Amazon. found them and ordered them.

Or, so I thought.

They arrived yesterday and I gleefully took them to my favorite alignment guy to have them mounted and have the car aligned.

Well, when I got home, I noticed their isn't a lot of clearance between the tire and the inner fenderwell, so I took a closer look at the sidewall markings... These are 305/35R20. Dammit Jim!

Anyway, has anyone else ever made this mistake before? Is there anything detrimental to this?

They don't seem to rub, unless you count the pinecone that got stuck to one of the tires and was rubbing the felt liner. But, I pulled that off.

Just trying to decide if I should keep these, or get the correct size.

Comments? Thoughts?

P.S. I went back and checked my order. They did not ship the wrong size in error. I was the dummy that chose the wrong aspect ratio.

Usually it is not recommended to go over 3% difference in tire diameter. You are at 4.4%.

Other than throwing off your speedo by that amount, I don't think there will be a huge difference in all the other systems of the car.

If it was just me, I would keep them as is cause I'm not rich and wouldn't want to take the hit of selling them used and buying another set. But considering you have a ZL1, maybe you can afford it. If I could, I would change them, just because I'm like that and like to keep stuff as they should be.

The old gearhead in me is wondering if a taller side wall will help with launching the car.

Probably not a lot, but I do wonder...

There is a wire that runs in the wheel well on the driver's side (I think) and those taller tires could rub through the liner and cut into the wires.

You can relocate them so the tires won't damage the wire.

That's the only thing I know will happen, even from normal driving.

By the way, why didn't you let them ship them to one of their stores or distribution centers? I do that all the time and it saves a decent amount of money.

That’s a costly mistake.

Should have gone Tire Rack. They showed only a couple in-stock of the last set I wanted to order. Gave them a call & they found the additional ones & shipped them to me for free.

The MT drag radial is that size and lots of people run it. I'd relocate the harness just in case, but it should work. When they wear out just get the other size.

Relocating the harness would be a good precaution, here is the thread you need: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=485975

I wouldn't be surprised if you received StabiliTrak and ABS errors because of the large discrepancy. The speedo is now off by 4.4%, which also means your mileage growth will be lower as long as you have these tires.

This is strictly personal, but if I had made this specific mistake (trust me, I made many-many others ), I would look into increasing the front diameter as well.

I wonder how much that percentage would throw off the shift MPH/ RPM tables?

That's a good point, too, although OP has an M6, so only rev match can be impacted. I have the A8, so even if I had an answer for my car, it wouldn't be applicable here. Guess OP will see and hopefully report back so we can all learn.

The reason I didn't go with that nitto tire is because of exactly that when I wanted a 315 or 325 and it jumped to 35, so went back to the Toyo r888r in 325 and with extra folks in the car and trunk it rubs right at the outside perimeter of the fender.
I'd already relocated the harness, so...no more dead bodies in the trunk for me!

I checked tirerack before amazon and they did NOT have the G555RII in stock.

Yeah, I will check out that wire harness tomorrow afternoon. I honestly have not driven the car since I mounted the wheels back. I have been working all day.
