Love this website. NOTE: My Dad was an insurance agent,no big blocks under his roof, but kept me in very nice used cars as long as I stayed in college unmarried. His Dad, a Chevy salesman who got me hooked on the look of a new Chevelle SS 396 Butternut yellow black vinyl top during a delivery of the transport truck on a summer night in 1968, ( his dealership was getting an Impala and a pickup, of course). Lots of arguments in our family until Chevy starting putting 350's in SS Chevelles in 1971. BTW, Dad knew best, as I wrecked the 72 Chevelle SS 350 3 times after adding the Holley and the headers! >$8k off was a big part. Also wanted to get rid of the ‘90 as it was a rolling death trap. Not to mention the one I bought was the one I wanted: black Grand Touring with the red top in manual. And I drove it off the lot with 15 miles on the odometer.

61 years old, 1974 Chevy Vega, 1975 Buick Skyhawk, 1982 Camaro Z28, 1987 Camaro IROC Z28, 1998 Camaro SS, 2005 Silverado 1500 regular cab(4.8 liter 5 speed manual) which I still own, 2010 Camaro SS LS3, 2016 Camaro 2SS and a 2017 ZL1 which I bought used in March with less than 500 miles. All my Camaros have been manual cars and I really think my ZL1 is the best one of them that I have owned.

'79 Cougar.
My first and only V8. It was huge and felt like a truck in turns but it had a floaty feeling on the highway that introduced me to the personality that all cars have. '91 Cavalier. Bought this used and at first it felt compact and sporty compared to the massive Cougar. Over time the interior parts began to crack and pull apart. It was a prime example of American auto manufacturers trying to build cheap, compact cars to compete with Japanese auto manufacturers and the quality control was not there. On a snowy and icy road one night I was driving to work and slid into a curb, bending the passenger side wheel into the wheel well. 2005 Cavalier Bought it new but no cruise control, power windows or locks. It felt great early on but eventually the headlights got that yellowed look and on one fateful evening in 2012, the rear end was smashed in a multi-car pileup. 2012 Camaro V6 After the Cavalier was more or less totalled, I got a check for $3500. I had been casually looking at Mustangs for awhile but they were common as hell. They were a dime a dozen and mostly driven by middle-aged women. I stopped wanting one. On another fateful day, I saw a black Gen 5 Camaro driving toward me in traffic. I made up my mind really quick and went to the dealership and asked for a black V6 Camaro. Cruise control, power windows and locks, bluetooth for the phone and XM Radio. It was a huge upgrade. |
