Of coarse it sound's good on start up in a garage, that's the most aggressive it will ever sound. Also NOT buying the "waste of money" or "not paying extra" comments. No one really paying full price for these cars. I got $5k off my "new" 1SS non-NPP car that had more miles than my used NPP 1LE that I got for close to $15k off. So the "extra cost" for this or that seems like a moot point to me.

Not everyone got their car off the lot, where a dealer was paying interest on it each month. I ordered my car in February of ‘16. There were a total of 6 gen6 SS’s on any dealership lots within 150 miles of me. Only one of which was a manual, however it was a highly optioned Red 2SS that I was not interested in. There were absolutely no incentives or rebates on these cars at that time. The closest black 1SS 6M with similar options as to what I wanted was in Atlanta, nearly 800 miles away. I did not want the NPP simply because I new I wanted to put different exhaust on it as soon as I got it. I felt it to be rather stupid to pay for a $895 option just to turn around and pay another $$$$ to replace the whole thing. Even with ordering the car, I was still able to get it for around $3800 off MSRP, that’s without rebates or incentives, simply because I know how to buy a car.

Everyone has their tastes man, If it aint making the car faster it kinda goes on the back burner . I love the NPP sound , but I also like being silent but speedy and no tickets and not that it makes a difference but my car was not in the garage I was , I was just listening to the car while my son was backing it up outside , it sounded fine . We went to the gym today and were discussing putting a cam in it , that with headers and catless exhaust IMO sounds the wickedest !! Theres no wrong answers here , just opinions .....

Bumping old tread,

Everyone still happy without NPP? Anyone with second cat delete with non npp? Or even headers/Cats? If so, is crazy loud?

I had NPP + Borla secondary delete on my 18. I loved sound but i hate valve rattle at idle and at WOT. Plus tips kinda small for my taste.
Im looking to order 21 1SS, im not sure if i want one it again or not. Sure NPP looks better though.

I recently got headers and cam installed, which made NPP louder and a bit raspier after years of slowly losing the edge of the sharp rasp, plus the difference between closed and open states much more marked. Valve rattle I fixed myself based on TSB 18-NA-172 (plus using a bit of Drislide).

Indeed the tips could be bigger, that's for sure, but a muffler shop should be able to easily solve that. I like the sound overall, and high quality competitive products that support NPP (Corsa and Borla basically) are in the range of $2k—after hearing them, they don't feel that much better IMO.

Thanks for TSB. Do you still hearing rattle at WOT? Or completely gone?

2019 2SS, 6spd, no NPP. Stock exhaust works very well for my purposes, namely stealth. But when a bitch wanna test me, I leave it in gear slowing down, the gurgling and popping (which I really like) let's them know I got a monster under the hood. I need it quiet as I move through the slow pokes, they LOVE to drive side by side on my daily roads, so when one speeds up or slows down enough for me to jump the gap........... BYE BITCHES, exhaust is plenty loud then.

After the fix I didn't hear the same rattling noise, it was practically gone, the exhaust note became noticeably "cleaner" overall, if that makes sense. The new headers and lifters came with their own new noise profile, so it's harder to tell now, but I haven't noticed a comeback.

For the record, I cut off the actuator legs in question on both sides, not just the passenger side that the TSB references.

I always found the stock non npp too quiet, only sounded decent on a cold start. I got fed up with how quiet it was after 12 months. Had the stock non npp suitcase muffler removed and I've been incredibly satisfied ever since. Finally sounds like a camaro instead of an escalade.

Thanks for input guys. I do try minimize options since we dont know GM is going to give out incentives for 2022 buyers. NPP was one of list.

I also got the NPP, not happy with its sound, too muted for my taste, only like the look of the quad exhaust. I noticed that the aftermarket for replacement of the NPP exhaust is more expensive than the non NPP. My next Camaro that I buy would be a non NPP for a lower cost replacement muffler.

Local Camaro Club owner has a SS with ATAK and no NPP.

Sounded fantastic at our last meet up.

I had it on my first SS and I've had it on a couple of Corvettes. Ultimately I end up changing the exhaust so on my most recent SS I did not pay for it. I was never that crazy about the sound in either mode to be honest.

I got Non-NPP, but knew I'd be putting a Borla S-type on there. The Non-NPP sounds way too muted. I would think 90% of Camaro buyers wouldn't be satisfied with it.
The Borla S type on the other hand sounds glorious. I absolutely love it. I think it sounds noticeably better than the NPP as well.
