Read on AutoBlog that GM is apparently saying not to rely too much on that not so great EPA highway rating for it's new full size trucks with the 2.7 turbo, and that it will do better and match its competitors.

I want to believe that, and it sure seems like it should, but dang it still looks bad on paper.

The whole thing looks bad (on paper). Did they excel at anything? Where is it clearly better than the competition?

Well, there is a step on the side ... but I don't think I'd ever call those a 'stepside'. A stepside, in my mind, has the non-fender part of the outside of the box sunken in (instead of flush with the cab) with a platform for standing along the bottom between the fender & cab.

Probably better that they did it this way though. Looks big enough to get a boot in with easy and is a decent fit as an accent piece along the side. I imagine that a proper stepside design on a modern truck would look really awkward & out of place.

One thing that caught my eye about those side steps is that it seems almost like they could fold up into the foot hole. Not sure why you would want to do that, so it could just be the way that the designers played with the shape of it. But the pics of the Chevy in particular sure seem like its a different parts.

Agree with DG, not a “stepside” in the traditional sense, but just a step in its side. I like the potential utility of it as a way to get to items in the front of the bed.

Don't they already have a retractable running board that accomplishes the same thing?...A step needs to be out-board of the bed, I would think....Yeah, when I heard "Step-Side" I was expecting something else....Looks like old Avalanche bumper designs...

Sticking a piece of injection molded plastic in a hole is going to be an awful lot cheaper than a running board that swings out. Plus, I don't think running boards normally extend all the way back to the bed. They're usually more for cab access.

So it does. Still has to be a lot more expensive to do that though.

*side note: I know where the dealership that did the video is. Its right in downtown Oshawa. While at university, I sometimes used it as a landmark to let me know I was getting close to the bus line that would take me back to the north end of the city.

I use my Denali extending boards to access the box regularly - love that feature!

Are the reports true of GM pulling out of Oshawa?

GM Oshawa, Detroit-Hamtramck, and Lordstown all "unallocated" for future product.
