Say what you will about the Camaro being the overall better performer (which I think it is ) but now both mustang and challenger claim more horsepower for the money than the Camaro, 460 and 485. I am surprised that the refresh didn’t bring a small hp bump even just for marketing purposes

Corvette has only exceeded 50K in sells in 79 and 84. Close a couple of other times. Chevy sold over 183K Z28's alone in 79, baby boomers. Trans Ams outsold Z28 and also include other models of Camaro and Firebird.

i don't know about that. the 485 hp models seem to start around 40k so that' isn't exactly undercutting the SS. i wonder the breakdown of their sales by models is. Personally i don't think i see a lot of Challengers on the street above the RT level.

Worse news is simply that the whole segment is down. According to the data in this even the Mustang only had 75,000 sales for the year. Only a few years ago that number was 150,000. Also noted was December was the Mustang's worse month since 2014.

But with GM now selling Camaros close to the volumes of a good year of Corvette sales, something has to give.

In the past, GM has rushed models ahead to try and bolster poor sales (Malibu previous generation) but there is nothing Camaro like with camo in any spy photos. Which says anything new is more than 80 weeks away at best.

So staying away from the reason Camaro is selling poorly it's simply scary that the entire segment of "sporty coupes" from GM, Ford and Fiat are now under 200,000 units combined. That barely keeps one plant running. GM is fortunate that the Camaro shares production with the ATS/CTS. But even worse for GM? The Camaro is by far the highest selling model out LGR.
^^^This is what has been on my mind.

As enthusiasts celebrate the Challegers gain in market share ...and the Mustang’s overall volume lead, they miss that their numbers are at, or below, where they previously said the Camaro was a failure destined for cancellation just a little more than one year ago.

2018 was Mustang’s major refresh but sales fell.
FCA made it clear they are milking Dodge cars until they can’t. Ram and Jeep are where the money’s at (5 year plan from 2018)
GM is walking away from cars ...like Ford

Dodge can keep their 4300+lbs barges and I'll give them their extra 30hp. Mustang at 460hp ok but Chevy got the 6.2L for more torque.

Dodge advertises their stuff

Ford is Mustang is cheaper

Chevy doesn't advertise and has the superior platform, but because of this, costs a little more.

Not surprising, but there are so many Challengers, Chargers and mustangs on the road, it's refreshing to see a Camaro. I very rarely see another 6th Gen.

The problem is they need a more expensive model. All the young Camaro customers are hungry for a $150,000 Camaro come on Chevrolet get with the program. The $100,000 dealer camaros like Yenko , Lingenfelter and so on there are not enough the Camaro definitely needs to move up scale that’ll solve the problem for sure. Maybe even make it a two seater that would be even better really get back to the Camaro roots. When your vehicle is already the most expensive and does not sell the obvious thing to do is make it more expensive. duh !

In 1974 there was 386,000 Mustangs sold ,out sold the Camaro by 235,000 cars for the year. That second gen Mustang II must be an all time great in the world of the Mustang .

Or... maybe they should build a entry level V8 with the HP between the turbo 4 and the 6 cylinder with a performance level slightly below the turbo 4 1Le and it could cost 30k , hell they can even call it the Berlinetta to entice those who want retro.

I was thinking of the Berlinetta trim for the past couple months now, that would be a good idea.

I see fewer Gen 6 Camaro's here in MT than I do Corvette's! I never have seen a commercial or billboard ad for the Camaro. Almost as if Chevy doesn't want to sell them.
