Most stock I4s after time in the track dialing it in mind you are 13.6s cars all day. If you slapping joe schmoe ls1 mullet man lived at the track and has his car dialed in to hey i bought a new I4 haven't dialed it in then of course the LS1 will win but that's typical V8 guy asinine logic why not go race both a few times i have no doubt the top end of the LS1 is more stout but the 1/4 mile will end at a 1/4 mile and if you can't reel the I4 in stock for stock with similar driver to car dialing then you'll lose in the LS1 70% of the time.

I'm completely baffled how in history this world has forgotten how truly underrated the 4th Gen F-Bodies are. They are ALL... regardless of year, make and model ~ 350 HP stock. They use the EXACT same motor (internals to intake) as the C5 Corvette and are not detuned from the factory. The ratings on the brochure are nothing more than MARKETING numbers. Dynos have proven over and over again between trims the difference is negligible and all of them make in the ballpark of 350 at the crank.
The reason a 6th Gen V6 can hang with them is because they are considerably lighter and not down by alot of power ( ~ 20 HP less ). Stock for stock I've questioned quite often if my 1LT V6 could take my 99 Z28. They felt almost equal but the 4th Gen will walk away on the top end. A I4 Camaro stock is down too much power to consider taking one. Tuned, I still doubt it will win. You will probably need to mod it.. but then there is another problem, unlike the 5th and 6th Gen V8's, the LS1 4th Gens had ALOT of untapped potential in just basic Bolton's such as full exhaust and intake. Those two alone were about 40ish HP, add a tune and instantly you're looking at 410 HP at the crank. As for 4th Gens running 14's currently...you have to take into account they are OLD and the average 4th Gen owner (because they were such a dime a dozen) didn't bother maintaining them. In their heyday, a stock 4th Gen depending on transmission and driver ran anywhere between 13.7 and 12.8 |

2001 was the first year for the revised LS6 intake

Yep no doubt. I'm gonna hit the track here in a few weeks and see what this thing can do. My buddy's bone stock 01 WS6 auto ran 13.5 at 104, so this will be a really good comparison to see how two bone stock autos fair

Generally speaking, an LS1 F-body is faster than a V6 6th gen, and significantly faster than an I4 6th gen. Anyone trying to argue otherwise is uninformed.

to be fair, the new drivetrain setup behind an ls1 would prob be .5 quicker, if not more. i think a fair comparison would be manual trans cars.

absolutely not. think about the escalades and trucks. replace the a4 with a new 8+ speed trans, the cars would roll out. anyone who had a stock a4 ls1 car knows that trans was the achilles heel. dead spots, slow, poor shifting, sapping mph for no apparent reason, the list goes on.

Okay I misunderstood what you were saying at first. I thought you were saying the A4 trans was better than the A8. I definitely agree with what you saying. Although, that huge increase of torque the LS1 has over the 6th gen V6 really helps to level the comparison as well

Those old A4’s would cut 1.5-1.6’s with any decent aftermarket converter. Mod for mod they laid waste to our 6-speed cars out of the hole.
