You can't pop the trunk when there's no power to the car :tapsforeheadmeme: But yeah that's why I made the comment about lockouts and door handle gymnastics. Once you have done this to yourself, you will understand.

My only concern is that I've heard both the late model Camaro and Corvettes can be finicky about battery and the relearn process can cause rough starts during the relearn period, but maybe that's just anecdotal and exaggerated?
Not exaggerated. After reconnecting the battery, I let the car wake up for 30 seconds. Then I put it into service mode (hold start button 5 seconds with foot off the brake). Then it will start right up. The car is not happy without going into service mode first. I won't get any rough running, it just won't start and throws a CEL. Service mode prevents it for all the glitchy 1st model year Chevy software reasons.

I will review the transmission park/neutral sensor wire intercept concept, that I shared in an earlier post, when I install some additional USB power soon. I'll report back. This may be the easiest method for the AT folks but it won't help the MT folks. If the thieves have have OBD access, they could program out this interlock, but they won't expect to so it should trip them up enough. This (as do other concepts) eliminates remote start.

Manual guys could interrupt the clutch pedal lockout switch though it would send a notice on the dash to push in the clutch. Long gone are the days of using the cigarette lighter rewired to ground out the coil or interrupt the starter trigger wire. Hiding things in plain sight is sometimes the best.

Agreed, if I added something like this, it would look 100% OEM that nobody would think twice about and would need a (10,000-page) service manual to even find.

Of course there is little to no defense against a bogey physically (and slowly) hoisting the car onto a trailer, but that isn't a typical method, is it.

"Simple" reprogramming of the appropriate control modules to require something like pulling up on the driver's window switch as part of the regular start procedure. Absolutely zero physical mods, uses something already present in the car, and is NOT something that a thief would look for.

Has anyone thought about just hiding the OBD plug? Relocating it to an inconvenient location deeper under the dash?

What about cutting the wires and inserting a male/female DEUTSCH plug pair so the standard OBD plug is something you keep at home? This sounds like something I will do. Instantly eliminates access to the plug. better yet, leave the OEM plug but it won't connect to anything... further the frustration.

Why not just "uninstall" the actual plug, tie it up under the dash, and install a new "dead" one in its place? Way less work overall and will still screw their plans up.

I recently purchased this plug-and play remote switch and am going to substitute for a fuel system fuse as a critical system cut off. As soon as I can confirm it works 100%. I will give the heads up.

I'll stick with insurance as my anti theft tool. I don't want it back if stolen. Even if I can't get another new.

Yeah, well some people actually care about their cars after investing in them financially, and personally

Huh? I think you’re missing the point of the thread. I’d rather find my car had been entered / opened, but not stolen. As well, if they leave before rifling through / stealing belongings, all that much better.

I would be interested in getting this if they financed it for 12 months.

I get it.
Way back in the 70s, my SS Nova was stolen , but recovered although seriously damaged by the scumbag thiefs and get this- further stripped by employees of the police impound yard!!
All of this happened in broad daylight within an 8 hour span. Went to court and the two s.o.b.s basically got away with it. My car was never the same.

Kill switches , fuel cutoffs ,etc. are generally successful deterrents against juveniles looking to joy ride.
But a professional will go so far as to break into a garage and drag it up a flatbed if he wants it bad enough.
