UPDATE! 2013 ZL1 coming to replace RIP #1635

Not much has been happening in the last two weeks to report, but it looks like my new 2013 ZL1 is on its way to DE from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Berger Chevrolet "Bergerized" a nice red 2013 ZL1 for me, and it is on its way to the dealer in DE. I will post some pictures when it gets here. With the weather, it might be a while.

I left my 2012 ZL1 bone-stock, with the exception of Mild 'n Wild for exhaust.

I have been doing a lot of thinking, and I would like to do some mods on the new 2013. Does anyone have any knowledge to share about headers that will work with the dual-mode pipes so it will look stock?

I also read a little about needing a tune after adding headers. Any wisdom on that subject?

Also, has anyone used the water injection system from Snow Engineering? Any thoughts on the subject?

I am much more comfortable with the 1st gen cars, but I am trying to get up to speed on the 5th gen mods. Thanks!!
John

Ok, well, I've heard that shorty headers might not give as much hp gains as long tubes, but still sound awesome and may not require a tune.

As far as looking stock, not sure exactly what you mean, but I installed American Racing long tube headers with high flow cats straight up to my stock cat back with the dual mode exhaust. It sounds awesome. But, because I have Rotofab CAI and the headers I get a check engine light. Doesn't bother me. Plus, I'm going to tune this year and that will fix that. But, some guys on here were talking about an extension for the rear MAF sensor, not the wires, but something that actually backs the rear MAF out and might fix the need for the tune.

On the other hand, my dealer offered me an SLP package with shorty headers, high flow air filter(not a CAI, just replacement filter) and a downloaded tune that they specifically said would not void my warranty. Several people on here have called bullshit on that. But I believe them and frankly had I not already installed my long tubes I might have gone ahead and done it.

One thing, some, maybe most of us have had to cut the belly ban a little around the headers once installed to get the belly pan back on. It didn't bother me at all. But I think maybe the Pfadt headers, or somebody's, fit better and don't require that cut.

I hope someone who knows more than I about all this can fill in blanks for you.

I'm really glad everything is working out. Can't wait to see pics when you get her.

Meth Injection.

I know there are shops, like Vengeance Racing in Georgia, that use that on cars they build. It's a concept that has been around as long as superchargers on WW2 airplanes. The thing that everyone worries about is that the meth might eat the coating off of the inside of the rotors in the supercharger and then therefore allow corrosion to happen.

Here's what Eaton and other people in the industry have said. They cannot confirm that meth will eat off their coatings, but they can't confirm that it won't(sounds to me like they are just trying to make sure their own asses are covered). I checked with a chemical engineer that I know, who is not in that industry, about the whole thing and she basically read over supercharger industry reports on the stuff. She didn't see any evidence that it would eat up your car.

I'm so not the guy to really ask as I did not yet make the decision to put it on my car. But I didn't really find a reason not to put it on if you want it. My reason for not wanting it after all was having one more thing on the car to have to fill up, and I'm lazy. I think talking to snow that you would need to refill the tank every time you fill up the car. But then again you can get a larger reservoir in your trunk if you want and run a longer line.
