I just pulled up the 2018 camaro OM and it mentions "filter" ... 69 times. First reference to the Passenger Compartment Air Filter is on page 192.

When I get back to my little white rocket I’ll have another look in the OM

There is a video on YouTube that shows removal/installation. I just watched it in order to get to my own mouse house. Can not believe the best some Engineer could come up with was to use a long screwdriver or flat pry bar....to PRY the hinge away from the mount! They couldn't add a couple of buttons or a lever, or a pin?

Any one have any idea WHERE the F'in INLET is for the CAF? I looked around, will crawl underneath when it stops raining. Thinking of putting some screening over the inlet to deny entry to the next rodent.

Back to rodent body retrieval duty..........

Inlet is under your cowl...……….
Remove both wiper arms, then all push pins, about 10. cowl will lift off.
Once removed. move to pass side, you will see big black deflector panel held on by 2 more push pins. once removed, you will see inlet.

You asked!!!

Yep, that’s exactly the process my friend used to install a screen over the inlet. He also filled up an area on the passenger side with silicone. I’ll clarify the exact area when I see him this week.

Monday update..... Bought a small, 9mm inspection scope, with a 3' lead. Snaked it in and there are fuzz balls and crap all over the place, in and around the heater fan. As well as two balls of maggots. So I have probably found the nest with dead babies and the parent. Car REALLY stinks today.

I thought I could maybe save myself the deductible by cleaning it myself but doesn't appear so. Access is just impossible without removing parts of the dash, etc. Off to the Dealer.

At least it doesn't appear they chewed any wires.

Thanks....What do you use to remove the push pins? Putty knife? Or is there a special tool?

They are reusable?

I already have some galvanized, 1/8" mesh screening and some HD Caulk. To rig up something so this will not happen again.

Thanks again for the info!

That's nothing compared to the wiring harness that all the manufactures are using now. The wiring insulator is a soy based covering. I have seen my fair share of rodents getting in the engine compartment and doing major wiring damage.

You can use a butter knife but much easier using the tools. Yes reuseable.

My Attempt at a Rodent Screen

Live in the country and all kinds of crazy rodents - mice, chipmunks and red squirrels. Had a nest in the cabin air filter last winter so I decided to try and cover the air intake hole in the firewall with a screen. Was hoping to just zip tie some window screen around opening but not enough of a flange around the top edge of the firewall hole. Used a disposable aluminum cake pan. Cut the sides down and form fitted it into the opening. Fastened it in with some duct tape. I punched the holes on a bench before installing then opened them up some after install with a nail punch. Air flow seems ok. Recirculate mode has stronger air flow through vents but I think that's always the case. Critiques welcome.

I would have made the holes bigger, Seems like a lot of restriction there.

A mouse can get through a small, 6-7 mm hole (about the diameter of a normal-sized pen) and a rat can get through a 20 mm hole.

I’d use a rigid perforated stainless sheet.

Your holes look too big, the material is too soft (thin aluminum is a mouse delicacy, ask me how I know) and there isn’t enough free open area (at least in my opinion).
