Yeah, that’s a short commute. I would totally do it.

No 2.8 miles one way....

I've considered a bicycle but I like to leave work for lunch. Come home, let the pup out, grab a bite, go for a ride (this is before the Camaro on the Harley). I'll probably do the same with the Camaro. Besides... most days I'd be a sweaty mess riding a bicycle.

I'm about the same, minus the dog part lol. I'm probably around 1.5 miles from home to work. There were days where I would swap the Camaro out with my other car because rain was on the way.

Do a trip even couple weeks to get everything up to temp for 30 minutes and it's all good.

Yes. In colder climates I would worry more about water pooling in the exhaust when car does not get a chance to warm up. The other potential issue is battery discharge.

Oh I totally do this all the time with my Harley. If I see rain moving in, I'd just run home quick and grab the Tahoe. It is very convenient for that...

Ya, that's a good call out. I think I'd most likely be doing this without trying most of the time. As winter moves in I might need to make more of an effort. I don't drive it over winter, so that's not a concern.

The battery issue and condensation in engine oil would be the bigger challenges here.

But they are easy to remedy. Take her on a long drive on the weekends and you are good.

The ideal commute would allow you to reach full operating temp and stay there 15 or 20 minutes. That will get the moisture out of your exhaust and fluids.
But as said above as long as you drive it farther on the weekends its not like a bunch of water builds up every night that needs to be boiled off.
My commute is 17 miles each way. The exhaust on my 2007 GMC was still fine when I sold it with 150,000 miles.
Im thinking if I had a 2 mile commute it would have been replaced way before that.

For the 900-something miles I've put on my car, it's mostly been trips around town although I've done a handful of longer trips to and from the dealership I bought it from as well to specialized health clinics where the last 5 miles or so were on pretty rough roads. I wouldn't worry too much about wear and tear unless you have a long commute and/or drive like an asshole.

Those short trips are absolutely not ideal. You want the oil to come up to temp to remove moisture in the crankcase. I’d plan on some longer trips every so often just to bring it up to temp, but your OLM will likely also go down a bit quicker as you should change out your oil more frequently due to short trips as well.

What law says you have to take the shortest route to work? Maybe you could choose a more fun route and leave 15 minutes earlier?
