Unhappy Brand new 2018 2SS, Strange idle tick

Howdy!

I got my brand new 2SS exactly one week ago. The car had about 24miles on it when I picked it up, and I've been following GM's break-in recommendations down to a T.

Every time I'm stopped at a light with the windows down or when I pull in to my garage to park, I notice the car makes a very loud ticking noise. Now, I know the LT1's have noisy direct injection, and I've owned DI cars before, but this strikes me as abnormal.

Also, the general consensus seems to be that increased ticking should only be heard upon a cold start, yet mine continues to be heard equally as loud even when the car is warm (95-100C oil temp). Also, I notice the ticking only on the driver's side of the engine, not on the passengers side.

I've made some videos and I'd appreciate it if some of you more experienced owners could take a listen at the following clips and let me know what you hear. IMO, it's not quite "tappy" enough to suggest a bad lifter/valve, but it's also louder than regular DI tick. Many thanks!

(Car is currently at about 450miles and drives fantastically, not a single issue except the ticking at idle)

Warm car, hood down
warm car, interior perspective
hood up, interior perspective
hood down, engine bay. Please note at 0.21 seconds in the ticking is loudest

Not abnormal. That's the LT1 DI tick. When you do a cold startup, for the first minute or so, you might hear an intermittent metallic tick that goes away as the engine warms up - normal as well. I had the same concerns when I first got my car. Drive and enjoy it.

Thanks for taking the time; I know LT1's are kidna noisy when it comes to DI but mine strikes me as just a little too loud. In the mornings it sounds almost like a cammed V8, sometimes there's an erratic tick as well.

Anyway, I haven't done the break-in service yet, so I'll bring it up with my dealer.

Take a video and post it up, we can tell you if the noise level is normal by GM's wonderful standards.

Hey Frosty, thanks for answering. In my opening post there should be links to 4 videos. Can you see them?

Yes, the video links are there. I listened to the open hood one. Sounds like mine and I have 17.5 k miles now. They are just noisy engines between the valve train noise and the DI noise. There is no harm in asking the dealership service dept. about it the next time in but I suspect they will say "normal operation".

Sounds just like mine, the DI system in these cars are just noisy. Like Dan said, it won't hurt to ask your service department but they're going to say it's normal operation for this vehicle.

My '16 SS sounds the same, I'm at 18k miles now.

It's normal...when cold LT1's have a off rhythm metallic tick. If you want it to go away just add catless headers!!

Totally normal. Mine has the exact same tick. Dealer has looked at it and everything is good.

Hahahaha, that made tickled. I have catless LTs. I've looked for exhaust leak for weeks, ticks like crazy after the install.

I've come to the conclusion that it's the thin walls of the LTs. Like others have said.

its the injectors. Totally normal, and the sound will get quieter as it breaks in. Also, you will get used to it. I don't even hear them anymore.

Just got my 2018 2ss redline edition, automatic with dual mode npp exhaust.
On an initial cold, startup, I get a loud ticking noise for about 30 to 60 seconds. Once the engine rpms drop, it becomes faint. In order to hear it after the car is warm, I have to pop open the hood. Then, I hear it.
