If you drive the car spirited, no matter what fuel you’re running, 3000 is a good number. Oil is cheap.

Normal for oil to smell like E85 after 3000 miles. That's where I would change it. The oil gets diluted faster because Ethanol requires a lot more volume to burn at the same lambda as pump gas. 20-30% more depending on how much ethanol.

100% agree with everything said here. The color is normal and the oil should be changed at 3k using E85.

Thanks O.P for mentioning this! This is GREAT info to know! I change my oil regularly as it is! But, I would have freaked out if it would have looked and smelled differently than I was expecting when I change it next. I changed mine at 500 miles and I'm still way short of 3000 miles for my next change. So I'll prepare myself not to panic!

Moto IQ has a good video of the effects of e85 on motors. They use a subaru but I'd imagine the principles are the same. Moral of the story... short trips on ethanol will start leaving sludge, even after only 2k miles I think it was.

Anything with short trips will leave sludge, and as we love our cars and baby them it’s a no-brainer maintaining them with frequent oil changes. Out with the shit and piss.
