Center brake light showing water/humidity inside after car wash?

Noticed the center brake light looked very humid inside while I was drying the car after a wash.

Car is only 3 months old. Don't really want the dealer tampering around with a bunch of stuff and causing rattles.

Is this an issue where the only option is the dealer replacing the whole light assembly? Or maybe just a bad seal around the light?

Mine does this too. I’ve read a decent amount of camaro drivers that have this issue. I personally never bothered to call my dealer about it though.

Bad seal. My aftermarket 3rd brake light did this. You can remove the 3rd brake light and replace the seal with body molding double sided tape. Make sure to use a continuous piece of tape so there's no gap for water to get in.

And to add to all the above information, don't be afraid with rattle, this is clipped in with adhesive in the back, you won't get any rattle at all.

If it is OEM, I'd get it replaced. The adhesive in the back do not deal the light.

You people are funny, you paid about $4500 in the purchase price of the car for the warranty and you do not want to use it. Takes about 40 minutes to swap out the light with a new one at no cost. amazing.......

Condensation can be normal for even a headlamp. If it clears then not an issue. Headlamps for example have a GoreTex patch that lets moisture out but not in. Several OEMs even have this in the owners manual (Ford and Audi that I know of)

But if it's enough to leave standing water and it doesn't drain or clear, then get it replaced. Just be ready for the "they all do that" if it's just condensation.

And yes, I have engineers that do this for a living.

If you knew the type of service that the techs at my local dealership provide, you might consider doing it yourself LOL!

On the aftermarket products, the adhesive absolutely does seal the light.

I’m planning to swap to the clear taillights/ 3rd brake light. Plus my dealer has damaged my car enough. I have some valid excuses, lol.

This is how this problem at the dealer will most likely go:

1. I have to take off and waste time to bring it in. I will then have to explain the issue to them. I will probably have to fight with them when they "can't replicate it" or the problem can't be verified without screwing my paint during a trip through their Swirl City car wash.

2. If they do agree to fix it, they will more than likely not have the part in stock, so I will have to bring the car back and waste more time.

3. When they fix it, they will probably do more damage to the paint trying to get the light out than it is worth.

4. The 3m tape that is holding it in will not be cleaned off properly, and the new 3m tape will probably be applied wrong on top of that, and it will fail again.

5. I will be right back at square 1, minus my time, and whatever car damage they inflict inbetween step 1-4.

No one cares about your car as much as you do.

I'm gonna have to agree with you on this. If you care as much about your car as I do about mine, it is not worth the risk. I'd try and fix it myself instead. This is where the forum comes very handy.
