Just priced out a 2017 Z06 and 2017 ZL1 to my specs, Z06 came to $95,000.00 and the ZL1 came to $66,000.00 rounded off. So using these numbers is the Z06 worth @ $30,000.00 more than the Z06, not in my book.

I did a price build and with my specs, I got a $30K difference. You can buy a ZL! and a every nice DD car for the price of a Z06.

It's interesting, I was having this very discussion with folks in another thread. I built and priced myself an identically-equipped Z06 and ZL1...(no Z07 package)...and there was a $31k difference.

That's a lot of gas, tires, and track days!

Clicked quite a few boxes to get to 95k, definitely one big difference is the Z06 has a ton more options and you must have checked the 3lz which makes the interior significantly nicer then the Camaro, probably also comp seats which have more adjustments and more track oriented then the Zl1. Is it worth 20-30k more? I'd say that's all in the eye of the beholder.

For my part...I started with a 2LZ, and only checked the boxes of things I'd want (or already comes standard) on the ZL1. Including suede seats, and carbon dash...the Corvette doesn't offer very much more above the Camaro in terms of options, with the exception of the 3LT/3LZ interior trim. It's an expensive car.

If I had the cash - totally worth it...but I don't.

I'm not sure but I believe to get the suede inserts on the Z06 you have to order the comp seats which are a 2K seat, also if you clicked 2lz did you then click PDR? Its cheaper to click the 3lz and pdr is standard on top of full leather and suede interior. I've sat in a fully loaded 2SS which is basically the same as a zl1 minus Recaro seats. Don't get me wrong, I'm no ZL1 basher (I do own a Z06!) I love this new ZL1 and had it be available when I bought my Z06 there's very much a chance I would've saved 20-30K and bought the ZL1 with A10! I'd really love to see a test of the ZL1 with the Z06's Sport Cup 2 tires, I bet the numbers would be even closer.

Nope. Suede inserts are an optional interior appointment w/ 2LT.

Yes, PDR. There is nothing about the 3LZ interior that is cheaper.

ZL1 interior is similar to 2SS, except everything on the doors, and dash that is stitched leather, is stitched suede. (unless you order CF interior trim, which I'd like).

Your thoughts regarding the Sport Cup tires (or Trofeo Rs, since Camaro team seems to like those) is something I've thought about very, very hard......

Think about it this way (and I'm derailing...I apologize):

All times are from the Car and Driver lightning Lap, and Chevy-published Nurburgring times...

The ZL1 A10 is as fast, or slightly faster, around a track than the outgoing Z/28. This is a given. Nurburgring proves it, and Chevy has alluded to the same going around Milford Road Course. The ZL1 uses Goodyear Supercar tires...the Z/28, extremely sticky Trofeos...These are givens.

Therefore...around VIR;

--Car and Driver posted a 2:50.9 in the Z/28. We can assume the ZL1 will be within a half second or so...

--The Z06/Z07 posted a 2:44.6.

Much faster, right?

If we look at the Porsche GT3...it posted a 2:50.4...and the GT3 RS posted a 2:47. The major differences between a GT3, and GT3 RS are...Sport Cup Tires, aero, and carbon ceramic brakes.

If they put Carbon Ceramics, and Sport Cup or Trofeo R tires on a ZL1...I would fully expect it to be able to post a 2:47.5 or so...That's still 3 seconds off a Z06, but for 30k less? Hot damn, that is ridiculously fast!!

If they opted to built a Z/28 with such equipment again?? I wouldn't be at all surprised if it would be 1-2 second behind a Z06...

I don't think there's a big difference in the brakes for one lap compared to CC but the tires definitely make a difference. I'm very interested to see if these new goodyears are actually a big improvement they claim. They should've gone with MPSS standard and MSC2 as optional. I think GM doesn't because it would only close the performance gap that much more compared to the Vette. As far as a future Z28 it maybe close to a Z06 in performance but the price probably won't be far off either and corvette is building their on track right now.

Brakes allow them to stop later, deeper into the corner. That keeps your average speed up, and decreases lap times. And in the Lightning Lap...they will drive until they can extract the best time out of the car...occasionally, they'll get it in one lap, but sometimes it takes a couple of tries.

Goodyear's perform as good, or better on the track than the MPSS...particularly when hot. Camaro team also seems to have a relationship with Goodyear and Pirelli. Corvette with Michelin.

It will be interesting to see if they produce a Camaro in the mid to upper $70s, again.

When I looked it up previously both the GT3 & GT3/RS have Cup tires and CCB's. The GT3/RS has a lot of lightening and much downforce.
