The GM authority article excerpt is vague.
Are they talking about higher profit margins on the Camaro or GM as a whole? That is a big difference. Also, vultures are just smart shoppers. Besides, go to Chevrolet.com right now. 16% off many cars (Camaro not included). GM has conditioned consumers to wait for this. |

Camaro is underperforming from a sales perspective but gen6 performance demands a new definition (Number3 eloquently said something to that affect - pony/muscle/sports car). I love mine and look forward to gen7 fixing some of its broader appeal shortcomings.

The key always has been and always will be perceived value. Actual value is an opinion held by the buyer. My thoughts anyways, Drew Last edited by Drew66; 04-04-2017 at 04:32 PM. |

Now that's interesting indeed. Quote:
It has been, at least thru March. 20% off deals are not hard to come by for '16 and '17s in certain regions. As an example almost every Challenger at my local dealer has $3-6K off depending on MSRP.

Given just the information in those numbers...Camaro is taking in over $3000 more per car (on average) than Mustang...and Mustang only sold 9 more cars YTD to retail, real, customers YTD. Keep up the 7000+ cars per month, and I think we're alright. Definitely doesn't hurt to broaden the appeal, or market some more, though. |

Seems a bit fishy. Per fordauthority... http://fordauthority.com/fmc/ford-mo...sales-numbers/ Total small car rental fleet for Jan, Feb and March was 12.3%, 17.8% and 15.7% respectively. A vast majority of all rental sales are small and mid size cars. http://corporate.ford.com/content/da...17jansales.pdf http://corporate.ford.com/content/da...ruary-2017.pdf http://corporate.ford.com/content/da...Sales-2017.pdf Considering nearly 30% of mustang sales are of the V6 variant, and nearly all rental companies choose the V6 over the ecoboost and coyote...the numbers don't add up. Does anyone have a reliable inventory number for unsold 2017 Camaros?

GM is having inventory issues across its entire lineup, not just Camaro. It's a major reason why my GM stock is down like 2% in the last week.
So, it could be true that their strategy was to reduce overall volume by cutting back fleet sales AND STILL have an inventory problem. But then I remind myself...WHY DO I CARE if Camaro is outselling Mustang and Challenger especially when those numbers are not broken down by type of sale, fleet, consumer, V6, country etc.

Of course, we all already knew the ATP of the Camaro is higher. None of us really know what the profit margin is on any of these vehicles. |
