Motor Trend Scoop: 2015 Camaro to be on Alpha Platform

As reported on Homepage Blog.

Motor Trend reported last month that the 2015 Camaro would use the same Alpha platform at the 2014 Cadillac CTS. This would create a lighter, smaller Camaro. The lighter weight would lend itself to having a supercharged or turbocharged V6 as the performance engine of choice for the Camaro SS. More information at these two links.

Motor Trend continues to report: 6th gen 2015 Camaro on Alpha Platform

I was reading in the new Motor Trend that the 2015 Camaro could get the Alpha platform. This would be a smaller platform and may shed some weight. It was an interesting read - here is an article similar.

They've been saying that for decades. Smaller, lighter.

Looks like it would still have room for a V-8, so thats a plus.

I just read that article before jumping on here. I like where this is headed. It also said the next generation Camaro starts production in early 2014 as a 2015 model.

So does smaller and lighter mean the Camaro is going to be a 2 seater?

i could be wrong but i thought i read that they are doing away with the v8 on the new platform...

because people were asking about why drop the power.. but the car will be much lighter... so it makes up for the lost hp power...

I hope it comes out a little later than 2015MY. But that's for selfish reason that I will be fresh out of college at that point. But for GM, I think there's a lot to be gained by putting newer generations out a little sooner, or atleast heavy refreshenings. Ford has started this recently and I think it's working very well.

Remember they could very well go away from the good ol' pushrod V8's. You have CAFE standards that will be in place by 2016, so the top tier Camaro could very well be a turbo V6 of some sort.

If they can get the same power with better gas mileage out a V6 I say

I heard it's going to use nuclear fusion. They are just having problems with the flux capacitor. Good news is they called in Doc Brown.
