When I still had my 5th gen, I inquired about the GM Heads/Cam kit. It 100% voided my power train warranty on the vehicle. Even with GM installing it--it's just the nature of the beast.

That is why GM won't make a tune for it.
Gm installed parts with a tune would have to be covered.
This way they wash their hands.

"NOTE:
Installation of this kit will affect engine variable valve timing and active fuel management operation. Re-calibration is required for accurate engine operation (Not available from GM, must be tuned by an aftermarket source) "

AFM has to go away because the kit included lifters that are non-AFM. I don't see why you would need to turn off VVT, it just needs recalibration to fit the cam profile.

What am I missing here?

not turn off, but must be tuned, ie advance / retard changed. Most / all cams that I know of also need or should have a VVT limiter or the valves could kiss the pistons...

[QUOTE=Richard0nee;9561245]So I heard from one of the service advisor's that no tune is needed with GM's head/cam kit and it's just a factory reset. Warranty will be not be an issue.[/QUOTE

LOL..........

This isn't true at all. GM could offer a tune and still walk, they just don't want any liability problems.

One problem associated with offering tunes is the emission warranty.

"Harley-Davidson Inc (HOG.N) agreed to pay a $12 million civil fine and stop selling illegal after-market devices that cause its motorcycles to emit too much pollution, the U.S. Justice Department said on Thursday.
The settlement resolves government allegations that Harley sold roughly 340,000 "super tuners" enabling motorcycles since 2008 to pollute the air at levels greater than what the Milwaukee-based company certified to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency."

We no longer have to worry about the Justice department going after corporations any longer or any EPA regulations.

I dropped my car off last week for the latest recall and inquired about the hot cam/heads price, they quoted my 28 hours labor at a whopper total of $3,600(post tax), parts not included.

I proceeded to take a hit out of the crack pipe they were smoking and went home a happy camper.
