Larger Capacity Oil Filter

Curious if anyone is making a larger capacity / taller filter for the 6.2L engines?

Used a PF64 for my 500 mile filter, getting ready to do the 1500 mile change.

On my 1988 Monte Carlo SS I run the giant Wix 51794 filter (8" tall) - holds a extra quart of oil in the system

I see Delco makes a PF63E (extra capacity) but not a PF64E, maybe there is an aftermarket source?

Is there any evidence you need even more oil capacity? What are you trying to accomplish here?

Its usually a easier way to gain oil capacity, filter area, etc... with no cost

Of course it is, that wasn't my question, nor am I disputing any of that.

My question is; why do you think you need more capacity or filter area? Are you having filter particulate loading issues or oil pickup starvation issues?

Have you looked under the car to see that adding a longer filter may not be physically viable?

These cars hold 8 quarts, not a lot of reason to add any more. Oil changes are expensive enough.

The SS holds 10 quarts.

I have always run bigger filters.. added filter media, lower pressure drop, practically free. At factory it may not make sense, but to me, if I can get something for minimal cost with very tangible benefits.. win win. Perhaps at next oil change I will check clearances around filter, etc.

You're still wrong. We're talking about the gen6 Camaro's with the LT1.

And lowering the oil pressure on a filter with a bypass valve could mean it's in bypass mode most all the time rendering the big ol filter completely useless.

The factory installed a specific size for a reason. Adding one without knowing all the facts is probably doing more harm than good.

Go to the wix website and find the correct filter. It'll show the thread size, valve PSI, etc. Then you can search and match the thread size. There is a wix filter that is close to the same width but longer with the same threads. Will it work? Probably but I personally wouldn't chance it but you could try.

WHAT? Lower pressure drop across the MORE filter media.. no one said anything about bypass valve presets.. read a little ?

Factory also installed specific size airbox and blower, etc.. yeah, why change those. Some people.

I said something about bypass valve. Look up... see? Location of valve, the ADBV, the actual increase in media (larger filters some of the time don't have more media), pressure fluctuation during hard driving, cold start pressure build up, all these things must be figured in when picking an oil filter. Instead of your knee jerk " bigger is better" reaction without knowing if it's actually better. The only person to do all that research was GM and they figured which filter would protect better.
