Still not sure why the hell they are testing the Range Rover at the Nurburgring, but that guy was NOT on a Sunday cruise!

Motortrend was testing a Mercedes GLE and a BMW X6 on some notorious test roads in south central Michigan, i could barely keep up with them when i was following them in a C7. They throw those things around like nothing can happen to them. Granted the C7 was not mine, and i felt sliding it around corners on public roads was not appropriate.

What's interesting is that they brought the 15 Z/28 back. Why? My thought is that perhaps they're trying to get a dry-lap hero time for the Z/28, like they said they'd like to a couple years ago.

And then.....realize that the ZL1 is yet even faster! (fingers crossed)

Makes logical sense so that all the conditions are identical. Air temperature, track temperature, track surface. The Z28 looked really good so if the ZL1 betters that number lots of folks will have their jaws open.

That would be my guess is that the gen 5 was there to get a benchmark hero run. Kinda makes you wonder what in the world they have up their sleeve with the "Z/28" in camo. A viper ACR killer? But to do that it would have to best the C7 Z06. If the ZL1 is beating the gen 5 Z/28 and maybe spanking the GT350R thats the only thing left to shoot for

I cannot wait for the final HP numbers and price to come out for the ZL1. Hopefully they will release the ring times. Gonna be a beast of a car!

They might be doing it just for marketing purposes (the new car is X seconds per lap faster).

But I'm sure they use the older cars as benchmarks too. They're comparing not just raw laptimes but also the behavior of the car in all conditions. Using telemetry they can see of the older car has a speed edge in certain conditions (i.e. specific corners, and even certain sectors of specific corners). If it turns out the old car inspires more confidence in certain conditions, they can analyze that and tweak the new car accordingly.

Agreed, I would love to have one of these one day. The 10 speed auto is going to be untouchable compared to most cars you'll see on the road but I think I would still go 6 speed. The picture of the black one going around sets the standard for badass. Can't wait to see the ring video.
