2020 'Clydesdale' GT500, 4225 lbs

https://www.autoblog.com/2019/08/15/...s-order-guide/

That makes it about 100 lbs heavier than the 5th gen ZL1 and somehow puts it closer to the Hellcat's curb weight than the current ZL1s. The Mustang has the edge in power to weight, but its a lot closer than it aught to be.

Heavy as hell, won’t see full hp until near redline but, really like the looks and styling. ADM is gonna be HIGH....

on a road course, want to see how it stacks up — that weight and rpm range will still make it tough to beat the zl1 1le — can’t wait for a head to head run!

Wait soooo long for a car and this...

It's going to have a tough time beating the 3 year old ZLE on a road track.

wow that's....

they use to take weight out of cars like that, not make them heavier.

The Aluminum F150 is heavier than the Silverado the Mustang GT is heavier than an SS.

I love that nick name DG

That might stick

Am I reading this right?

The tranny and engine share oil?

Oil pump with large inlet and high-pressure relief valve

Full synthetic oil (5W-50) is required for enhanced engine protection at high loads and temperatures

Cast-aluminum oil pan mounts to both the block and*transmission, which helps provide added strength and reduced engine vibration

11.5-quart capacity oil pan features active baffles to channel oil to the sump during extreme acceleration, braking and cornering

I read they were going to offer a carbon fiber package that would significantly reduce the weight and significantly increase the price. I do not see that mentioned in the specs released.

that all being said, Ford is doing a helluva a lot more with the Mustang that GM is with the Camaro today. That's coming from someone that has never bought a Mustang, and only owned Camaro's.

Ford has done a lot lately because they had to catch up. Even so, there is always some kind of a catch with Mustang.
  • 15 GT gained weight (after hinting it would be lighter) and was considerably slower than the SS.
  • 15-16 GT350 requiring optional coolers or they overheated in a parade lap
  • Base GT350 performance was equaled by the much less expensive SS 1LE
  • 18 PP1 failed to resolve the poor handling dynamics. It too, is only a streetcar.
  • PP2 released as “not a track car” ...no coolers ...after hyping it as the answer to the SS 1LE.
  • GT500 delayed and weight is revealed as 4,225 lbs
Camaro hasn’t advanced, or released anything new, since 18 but that is the stage of the product life cycle it’s in. Team Camaro embarrassed Ford in performance this generation.

The GT500 should be a success given the time they took. I’d expect a conditional win (specific combination and circumstance needed). Like the GT* combo needed to compete against your average SS.

Well, to be fair, pretty much everything makes peak power near redline.

But I'm with you and mlee on the ZL1LE having an edge on a road course.

Never heard about the carbon thing. But they're going to have to replace a lot of metal with carbon fibre if they're going to get it down to a reasonable weight.

I've read it'll remove 100 pounds when optioned with the carbon package. Not sure what's changed though

True but, my point being on a road course it will need to hit the higher RPM to used that power — where the zl1 1le and the ‘Clydesdale’ torque available won’t be very different — thus the 400-500 lbs difference in weight will show up... on long straights that rpm/hp will help — thus I’m betting we’ll see more 1/4 times vs road course track times. I may be wrong so, we’ll see...

Ford states that if you want the GT500 w/ the Track Pack, it is an additional $20,000!!! You want painted-on stripes? That is extra $10,000!!!

If you want the ZL1 1LE (GM's Track Pack), it costs a mere $7,500. If someone isn't brand loyal and they simply the want the nastiest track monster offered in a 2+2, they'll surely opt for the ZL1 1LE, since it is ~$12,500 cheaper.

Cheaper to buy the zle and mod it ;o)

Stripes package price alone put in the zle will add 150 hp minimum ;o)

The 2 together gets you a forged monster!
