Thanks
Fortunately for me, when mine failed, I was in a residential neighborhood, going under 30mph and pulled over and stopped in less than 1 min. So, I didn't need a replacement motor, just some parts and the oil pump.

So, I got lucky, I still have my original engine.

It seems like there have been more failures on ZL1s but can impact the LT1 also? My date is 4/17. I just saw a ZL1 with the same build date have a failure. Curious how worried I should be...

It doesn’t look like anyone’s posted a failure (in an LT4) since August. Could these oil pump failures be a low probability event after all, or is it that folks are keeping mum about it?

I would hazard a guess that only about 5 to 10% of ZL1 owners nationwide are on this forum.

So, I would bet there have been more failures, but we won't hear of them.

It's also likely that the ones that were going to fail have already failed.

I wish this was a proven fact.

Can I assume this engine cuts off when OP falls below some fail safe level like 10#?

Lost an oil pump at Indy one year when the pump sucked-in a screw from the valley. Engine was toast in less than 60 sec.

You would be incorrect.

I can only speak for myself. But, when the oil pump in my 2018 died, my oil pressure dropped to 0 and the DIC started alerting me to pull over and shut off the engine.

But, it DID NOT shut off by itself. FYI...

Question

Seems like the 2019s are clean without any issue. Is there an upgrade of the pump on that year?
'20 & '21 aren't mentioned, I suppose that the pump issue was fixed.
So mainly the pump problem was just on the first years.
What about the LT1 engine, does it have the same oil pump issues?

Same with mine. I immediately revved the engine a little to gain oil pressure. My car did not go with 0 oil pressure for very long.

More than seconds is too long

I wouldn't even consider buying a car with a failed oil pump that had been replaced.

This thread is played out though, maybe just keep the poll part of it open. Same old questions rehashed 20x

Anyone received their preordered LT4 pump from Katech yet?
TSP website shows that they have them in stock.
Hope mine will ship soon, so I can continue with my build.
