Shoes are very important for track but I can use anything for regular street driving.

The streets can be more dangerous than a track with all of the distracted drivers out there. I don't wear anything that will impede my footwork. No boots or flip flops. I never wore crocks, but I can see where they would be a no also.

I really like the rounded heels on them. What do others use/recommend?
Thong sandals most of the time. If I'm taking a trip or going to the drag strip, I use some comfortable sneakers.

Funny you mention it. I do have a preferred pair of sneakers for driving the Camaro. They are just walking shoes, but have a relatively flat even sole. The running shoes Im wearing right now are kind of a pain in in the butt because of the big squishy heel section. Great for being on my feet all day, but not for driving. I have actually taken my left shoe off several times because they get in the way.

I have also noticed that sneakers with thick or wide soles don't work very well. As you said, something with a flatter sole works better.

Anything with a flat sole always worked well for me. Shoes with grippy soles like running shoes would catch on the pedals. Hiking boots, combat boots are too heavy and make the clutch feel numb.

Barefoot shoes

I grew up in a Beach Community so clutching in bare feet was my norm.

Within the last year, I transitioned to the somewhat controversial style of "barefoot shoes" like xeroshoes (I wear the Prio style). I find wearing these shoes allows for wonderful heel and toe shifting but only for shorter stints as they are (at best) minimally protective.

As should be obvious, barefoot style shoes have no place in a real racing environment. For instance, over rough pavement and offroad surfaces, I find the back of my heels take far too much of a pounding.

Overall, though, the white shoes shown a few posts above look like what I would normally have gravitated to for more "spirited" daily driving.

P.S. Since I don't want this thread to devolve into an argument about the merits of barefoot style shoes, let me just say, they aren't suitable for most people who enjoy soft, or thick tennis shoes. And, they are not easy to transition into.

I prefer thin-soled cross training sneakers which have rounded heels, at least compared to jogging sneakers. Occasionally I find it necessary to drive in hiking boots and it's not pleasant. I drive an automatic, but pedal feel is equally important.

As for specialized driving shoes, they seem to have specialized prices, so no thanks.

Oh and those fingerless driving gloves with the cute knuckle holes? They were from the era of hard and skinny wooden or phenolic steering wheels. Wearing them in modern cars looks comical.

My favorite driving shoe so far is the Sparco Time #77
I like the look of those. I'll have to check them out. So far no one else has mentioned that they have a particular driving shoe that they use/recommend.
