2016 Oil Change
I might be attempting an oil change myself next time (if not this time then definitely the next time after that). Is there a crushable washer underneath the Drain Plug that needs to replaced in addition to the oil and filter replacement? If so, does anyone have the GM part number? I see a mention of a "seal" and an "Insert" on the parts diagram.

You could but I would change it. It crushes pretty good. It's a rubber seal. My local parts store had them for less than half what the dealer charged. Almost pissed myself when the parts guy told me they cost $6. Almost what the filter costs !!!

It is a not a crush washer per say, GM has used the same style oil pan drain bolts for decades now. It isn't a revolutionary thing. If it isn't leaking re-use the current one, if it is showing signs of weeping then replace it.

My last two cars were Nissan Altimas, they used copper crushable washers. I had a couple Oldsmobiles and a couple Pontiacs after that. I don't remember having a washer/seal under those plugs then. Is there any kind of links so I can see what I need?

Correct… ....… It's a std washer, if you want to get rid of it forever, put in a stahlbus valve.....Google it. |

So it's like a packing! I found the seal, they're about $3 each. http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oe-gm/12616850

They use the same drain plug as the Silverado, Camaro, Ecotec, LGX, they use it in A LOT of engines. 30,000 miles on my truck, oil changed every 3k miles, never changed the O-Ring that's on it (its just an O-Ring and a nice one at that). Has never leaked. I wouldn't bother changing it unless it does. BTW...if you really must change it, buy the whole drain plug (comes with the seal) as it is only $0.40 more than the seal itself.
As a bit of reassurance for you, from the GM service manual: Quote:
