The bad press gets blamed on the 8L90 when it's nothing to do with the transmission. I agree it needs tuned...I tuned mine and love it. Warranty don't matter to me. I bought this car as a toy not a daily. So yeah if you are planning on keeping it stock with warranty in tact then the A10 is for sure a better solution. I was just stating that if you put a good converter in the A8 and tune it, it's actually really good. I agree the ZF A8 is done right in stock form. it disabled AFM when you put it in sport mode. exactly how GM should of done things.

SO is the best way to improve performance for the A8 to adjust the programming or is it to upgrade gears?

I'm getting boosted soon and the car will be getting custom tuned. So while he's in there...what tables in the TCM will be beneficial? I heard 0% slip in 7th & 8th. Any advice would be great.

Got this info from AutoWeek. Not sure if it's a + or - that it's not the same a10 as the zl1.
As for the new automatic, note that the 10-speed auto in the SS Camaro is not the same as the 10-speed in the Camaro ZL1. No, the internal transmission code for that spec trans is 10L90E, whereas the '19 SS gets the 10L80E, or the same as the Silverado. The folks at Chevy assured us that the transmission has a different calibration than it does in SUV and truck duty. For instance, the engineers add extra fuel on full-throttle upshifts to give some snap and crackle while ripping around canyons or racetracks.

According media.chevrolet.com the new Camaro SS receives also the "Hydra-Matic 10L90 10-speed automatic"
My question, regarding the issues with the A8 is it (easy) possible to replace the A8 with a A10 in a 2016- 2018 Camaro SS ? |

The 2019 SS is getting the 10L80. And I have found no available info about what it would take to swap from A8 to A10.

Tuning for sure. there is 3-4 tenths reduction in the 1/4 by tuning the A8 on NA cars. That being said, you have quite a bit more power over stock with the Heartbeat, so I am not sure how much you want to remove. Gears would not be worth it on your setup unless you are going with a taller tire.

I've contacted several tuners about using AFM only in Snow/Ice or touring and they all say that's not possible because the ECM doesn't differentiate between the different modes. No idea how true that is, so I'd love to get your in put, thanks. |

I tuned my car...I have AFM disabled period. I was referring to the ZF A8 in the Dodge Scat Packs far as AFM being disabled in sport mode. That being said, I seen it mentioned that Tri-fecta performance can tune AFM for different modes...not sure if that is true. With HP tuners you can not and most tuners use HPT to tune so that is probably why you received that response.

I have realized that the AFM does not seem to function when I keep it manual mode. Is this a fluke or is my AFM not functioning properly. I am not trying to have the AFM on because I bought this car for performance not mpgs.

I read a thread on the forum that if you put the A8 into manual mode, downshift, and then upshift the engine stays in V8 mode as long as you stay in manual mode. That seems to work on my '16 2SS.

That is by design...I drove my car in manual mode all the time until I turned AFM off in the tune.

The 10r80 10 speed also needs tuning imo. Like it a lot better overall over the 8 speed. Don’t look back...

I have owned both. There is no comparison. The A10 is a phenomenal piece of equipment. It has yet to give me any trouble or have a service call on it (as far as I know)
My accountant is a manual car fanatic. He scoffed when I bought the ZL1. He drives a newer 'vette and a Porsche 911 He drove my ZL1 A10 earlier this year and grinned the entire time. When he got out of it, he walked around the car grinning. It took him a bit, but he finally said, "wow, that's an awesome driving car" If he was sold on it, I'm convinced that anyone who gives one a try and is allowed to fully experience it.....will love it
