I change when OLM is <20%. I try not to let it get to 0%. No track use. If I were to track I would change oil immediately before or after a track event, depending on the OLM status.

Oil life monitor, but in northern AZ, I do not get to drive the car during the winter months (currently at 1350 miles and holding). If I do change it before winter storage, I will not reset the oil life monitor only to have it reduced to 50% in the spring with no miles driven. I'll reset it in the spring and have fresh oil and 100% OLM.

I started with the oem 0w40 but will change to 5w30 Mobil 1 full synthetic with the next oil change at 1500 miles.

As pointed out the OLM is an algorithm that accounts for HOW you drive your car (throttle, speed, temp, etc., etc.), not just that you drive it (mileage).

That being said, and more importantly, many people have their own historically driven changes based on track use or just "it's what I've done for 20 years".

Me, I watch the OLM and start looking to change at around 10% just to give me some leeway.

It was always my understanding that the OLM takes into account for "tracking" the car through the algorithm. It sees all the high stresses.

I would be curious to have someone post a before and after OLM of a tracked car.

I agree with SS2. Change frequently. Cheap maintainence. Don,t need computer to tell me everything.

I would also be curious to see that.

I follow the OLM. when it get's below 20% I go to the dealer that week.

Miles have never been a good indicator for engine oil. It's virtually meaningless. Engine hours, fuel use (actually the better method) or the OLM (combination of factors) is really the only way that it should be gauged.

That said, if you're a nervous Nelly like a lot of people here, LOL, I suppose you could change the oil every time you put gas in the car. :-) cheap insurance right?

Or just do it when the car or the manual tells you to do it, they probably know what their talking about.

At least nobody has confused the OLM with the actual oil level..(yet)..lol...

"OMG I'm at 50% on the monitor! I'm gonna add 3 or 4 quarts of oil!"...lol

i would just change it once a year. Since you are storing it for the winter, change it in the fall when you put it away. $50-55 for 10 quarts of mobil one 5-30 and an oil filter.

Why holy crap? It's well-known that's what it costs if you buy the 0W-40 dexos2 oil and the correct filter and change it yourself. Less than half of that if you use dexos1 5W-30...
