Tuned and OBDII Emissions Tests

Hey Guys

Anyone have a modded and tuned car and have some of the I/M readiness monitors fail to register? Went to hook up for State test and fail as I have 3 monitors not reporting as ready. Had car in storage all winter. Had charger on battery entire time. Only drove about 20 miles before testing. Fuel, Cat and O2S not reporting as ready. Tech told me to drive and put mikes on as guessing computer needs to see some driving cycles to reset. No CEL’s on. As said, tuned and modded (mods in signature). Have driven for couple weeks and over 200 miles. Bought scanner and all still show not ready. Anyone else experience this?

Thanks

Start the vehicle from a cold start. The time to do this is if you have not driven the vehicle for a few hours and the engine coolant temperature is less than 50 degrees F.Let the engine run on idle. Turn the A/C and rear defroster on. You are trying to apply electrical load to the system.Accelerate to 55 mph.Hold a steady speed of 55 mph for 3 minutesLet go of the accelerator and coast until the vehicle hits 20mph. Don’t apply brakes to slow down.Accelerate again until 60 mph.Hold steady for 5 minutes at 60mph for 5 minutes.Decellerate (coast to slow down). You may need to repeat steps 3-8 a few times if the battery was disconnected recently.

This is sort of hard to do in traffic so try at late at night...

My smog guy always tells his customers to so a similar procedure after he resets and light of if a car comes in not ready.

Hope this helps some.

Do you have catalytic converters with the headers? Did you upload the tune for the headers before you started the engine the first time with the headers?

Make sure you are getting into closed loop mode. Your tune could be set up in such a way that it never gets into closed loop, which means those readiness checks will never complete.

Thanks for replies guys…will start the GM cycle process right away. Since my car just turned 4, this is first time I’ve had to do this, so don’t know if they’ve ever been ready. Will also talk w tuner about points above…

Update. Still have the 3 IM monitors not showing ready. Been to tuner and retuned (resets drive cycle data). Have 870 miles since this. Have completed at least 7-8 gm drive cycles. Have obdii scanner now and confirms closed loop fuelA and fuelB. Getting more than a bit worried they won’t turn ready. When retuned, there were 7 IM’s showing not ready (expected on a reset). Most showed ready after a couple drives except the stubborn 3 (fuel, catalyst, O2S) and Evap. The evap reset after about 350 miles. Talked to a different tuner and he said he’s seen a few go as many as 1,000 miles…damn…hope mine goes soon.

Anyone one else go this far w/o coming ready? No idea what to do if they don’t…

Thanks

Have your tuner turn every engine code to do not report and uncheck evertyhing in the ecm. Its al little time consuming, but when done and ecm tune loaded up it will set everything to ready instantly. Go get tested and then reload original tune with the check engine codes enabled again.
