Plus you have to have your foot completely off the gas pedal correct?

Great feature that the magazines said didn't work all the time and the same was true when I first tried it. It seemed to work once in a while, but not all the time.

I'm sure it's been mentioned here because KLR ZL1 said he saw it and gave me the info to try, but I figured it was important enough for a thread. This is an awesome feature and really glad to find out it works EVERY TIME if you do it right.

Accelerator position must be 0% before it will work. 1st tap either paddle to get into manual mode and then hold the left paddle for 3 sec with no throttle and it will drop every time. You can even be holding the paddle down and ready to go so as soon as you let off the throttle it will drop. Great for roll racing and soon as it drops jump on the throttle again. Works very fast so pretty very about this one.

Of course the shifter is the other way and maybe even best to keep it in manual while cruising. Then pull back and hold the shifter 3 sec and release throttle and hold on. Goes all the way to 3rd gear at 70 mph

Awesome!!

I guess I kinda gave up on it, because I found another way. I think my method may be even faster and easier. I've not tried the various drive modes, to know if it works in any mode, but I know for sure it works in Sport. Simply, very quickly tap the gas peddle to the floor and it will drop to the lowest gear and hold it, but won't accelerate, since you're not holding the peddle down. As long as you accelerate within 7 seconds, it won't upshift. If it happens to upshift before you go, simply tap it to the floor again. If you want to make sure it doesn't upshift, you can always pull the shifter to manual, then push it back to auto when you go, if you want the car to shift for you.
So I tried this one today and love it. Definitely has it's place though. Quickly tapping the accelerator to the floor puts you in Performance shift mode and keeps RPMs at 4k or above. Great move as a quick get ready, but doesn't get the RPMs up as much as the tap hold.

Holding the shifter back or left tap for a couple seconds actually goes max to 6k or even more depending on your speed.

So the two are a bit different and both have good application. This A10 is unreal...

Need help understanding this feature. If I am driving say 45mph in 5th gear as an example, what gear will it drop to by doing this? Is there a limit to what mph this works with? Just trying to figure out how many gears it drops to.

This worked on my 2014 automatic V6 5th gen as well, mike, I'm glad they kept that feature in the A10!

Did not know that. But when you have 10 gears it's definitely a plus to have.

After hearing you say the tap of the accelerator didn't drop as many gears and raise the RPM as much as the paddles, I had to test the 2 out today, now that you've let us all know the secret to making the paddles work every time.

When I first tried the accelerator tap, I was rolling around 60, which from my tests today, drops to the same gear as holding the paddle. Below that speed, the paddle dropped 1 gear lower every time. Sometimes the next lower gear would be an advantage from an acceleration point, but sometimes it wasn't. Either due to being so high in the revs (6k plus) that you would hit the rev limiter as soon as you nail the gas, or due to way less traction in the lower gear.

I really enjoy both methods, and have to say, dropping that one gear lower at the lower speeds, makes things very interesting. I was slipping, sliding, and quickly clicking off gears left and right! Very fun! This car freaking rocks!! Thanks again for clearing up the hold down feature.

As stated already, at 45 mph, it will drop to 2nd gear. I don't think there is any speed limit for this feature. I've used it at 80 mph, and it will drop from 10th to 3rd gear!

One more question since I still haven't tried it yet. Once it downshifts you have to paddle shift for all the upshifts, right?

In the manual mode where you hold the paddle or the shifter down, yes...& get ready to do it fast as the rpm''s are at 6k.

In auto when you tap the throttle to the floor, it goes to 4k & then you can get back on it.

The accelerator tap (Performance shift mode) works in both Sport and Track modes. I prefer this mode for roll racing as I find it faster than holding the paddle for 3 seconds. Also both methods work on the A8 as well.
