If you plan on keeping it, I would do it every five just my opinion

I agree, I would do your first oil change at 1,500 and then every 3,000 miles after (at most every 5,000 miles), always change the filter as well and use high quality, appropriate oil...

My 2024 owners manual says to change it within 600 miles once the change oil message comes up. We no longer live in the stone age of changing oil every 3 or 5k miles with the advent of full synthetic oil. If you question the algorithm the engineers designed for oil life monitor you can always have the oil tested. I make plans on changing it when it gets close to 20% or after a track day. My Northstar was changed every 10-12k miles and has over 300k. My 2016 LGX was around 6-8k miles. The manual also says the LGX should use 5w30 unless you operate in really cold weather then use 0w30. You should only use 0w40 for track usage with the LGX.

As a daily driver in stop and go traffic with a V6 I would prefer doing it sooner than later

I wouldn’t push these motors past 5k between changes. There’s enough information out there about timing issues due to old or low oil. Not worth it.

Yes, the lgx timing chain needs good oil to last. I would not go past 5 k miles on the oil.

Don't forget the wonderful engineers are also balanced out with marketing people who want the car to look as "Low Maintenance" as possible...

I've said it a million times, I'll say it again... Oil Changes are (relatively) cheap, engines and engine repairs are EXTREMELY expensive (relatively)...

I have an SS, it takes 10 quarts of Mobil 1 0W-40 ESP Formula which runs around $100 an oil change (if you do it yourself), I have no problem doing oil changes when the OLM gets to 20% (which for me is usually about 2,000 miles because I don't drive it much and the OLM takes time into account as well)...

$100... VERY CHEAP INSURANCE...

Even on my Hyundai's and Kia's I do oil changes at 3,000 miles and they all use Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic (5qts runs about $25), I have a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe with about 170,000 miles on it, doesn't burn a drop of oil, at 100,000 miles I took it in for a final check before the warranty expired, they changed the valve cover gasket under warranty because of a known issue, the tech came out and said that was the absolute cleanest top end he has ever seen on a 100,000 mile vehicle and he had been a tech for 35 years, said the thing looked brand new...

Oil changes, cheap insurance...

V6 owner here. Just hit 140,000 miles today. Oil changes done between 5-6k miles (usually when the percentage gets around 25% to 20%). Switched over to the mobil-1 0-40 last year. Loving it. With a new filter only cost me ~$60 and 45 minutes of time.

On a v6 car to change the oil. Spoiler is too low.

My LGX never used oil even after a track day. I had the oil analyzed at Blackstone several times, it's local for me, and both times it had plenty of minerals and vitamins a motor needs and I was down around 20% on the oil life monitor. And I have never heard of the Gen 6 LGX having timing issues, I have heard that Ford was having problems with the valve cam phasers but not on the LGX and the only timing problems I heard with the 3.6 are the older gen5 the new ones a pretty much bullet proof. I will have the oil analyzed with my new LT1 once it's broke in and make sure the 20% is still a good indicator for doing an oil change.

I had an earlier 3.6 (2014). 5k was the max interval I'd allow before changing the oil. You can theoretically go for as long as the OLM/oil life monitor tells you it's OK, but, if you're like me and prefer to over-service things, then change earlier.

I'd stick to the factory recommended weight and spec for the car for your intended use.

My philosophy is to change oil frequently. I like a 3,000 mile interval. Complex modern engines don't like sludge and debris. Plus they are expensive to replace. Yes, they will last through the warranty period for sure with the recommended interval, but I'd rather have the engine last much longer than just through the warranty coverage.

Besides, oil is cheap!

No more than 3k miles. The LGX's have tight tolerances and will fail if pretty quickly if you don't change the oil regularly. The Cam Phasers will go out of sync and you'll grenade the engine.

Older video. GM addressed the Oil Minder, but still good information.
